What time do you think is reasonable for a young child to get up?

Purely out of interest, not talking about babies but lets say the 2-6 age group. Do you have a time when you will tell them to go back to bed, is that time different depending on a weekday/weekend?

7 am is daytime here

but maybe at only just two then that could be bent to 6am onwards but working towards 7am

familyfun · 17/09/2012 19:52

6am onwards

nananaps · 17/09/2012 19:52

Yes, it was 7pm until aged 8-9 then it changed to 8pm.

At aged 2,3,4,5 i took them to bed, didnt tell them to go to bed.
No arguments, no negotiation.

6.30am - never made any difference between weekends and weekdays (2 year olds are hardly going to notice Grin). Probably helps that DH and I are early risers though ! Neither of us are bothered about having a lie-in.

nananaps · 17/09/2012 19:53

ahhh go back to bed! i so have baby brain!!

No it was impossible, early wakings were the bain of my life.
Mine just didnt need that much sleep.

BadRoly · 17/09/2012 19:54

Ours is 7am.

gordyslovesheep · 17/09/2012 19:56

I have 3.5, 8 and 10

weekdays we are up at 6:30 anyway so weekends I wont let them get me up before 7:30 ...eldest is quiet good and making breakfast for the smallest which helps!

Virgil · 17/09/2012 19:56

6am here. Until about a year ago DS2 woke at 5.30 every morning and so 6am is an improvement!

MrsRogerSterling · 17/09/2012 19:57

Between 6-7am is the norm here. Dd2 went through a phase of wanting to get up at 5.30am so it seems like a lie in now Hmm

JamieandTheMagicTorch · 17/09/2012 19:58

Virgil

DS1 woke at 5.30 for years. He is now 11 and I have to wake to up for school!

JamieandTheMagicTorch · 17/09/2012 19:58

wake him up

sittinginthesun · 17/09/2012 19:58

6.30am. Although, in my head, daytime starts at 7am, so I spend the first half hour in a sort of trancelike state.

crackcrackcrak · 17/09/2012 19:58

After 7 I will get up. Of dd is awake before that she may sit in my bed and read books bit I will not get up unless she is I'll. Tbf she is v good in the mornings.

crackcrackcrak · 17/09/2012 19:59

If you are having problems apparently gro clocks Can work quite well

ginmakesitallok · 17/09/2012 20:02

A reasonable time would be 7. Unfortunately no-one has told my DD2 that. She's better these days - usually up around 6. She's better than DD1 though who used to get up at about 4.30....

ISeeThreadPeople · 17/09/2012 20:03

The dc are 5yo and 12mo. They have to be woken at 7.30am on a weekday. At a weekend they naturally rise at between 8 and 8.30am.

Sirzy · 17/09/2012 20:03

DS goes to bed anytime between 6 and 7 depending how tired he is. He doesn't get up til gone 7, the rare occasion he wakes before then he plays in his room. He is 3 in november

Virgil · 17/09/2012 20:04

Jamie that is music to my ears Grin

anditwasallyellow · 17/09/2012 20:06

No not having any problems, he gets up at about 7.00am, just wondering if I am unreasonable to tell him to go back to bed at 6.30am, which I do.

7am at the weekend/6am in the week

wearymum200 · 17/09/2012 20:07

5am is morning for ds1, now 6, but he is not allowed to disturb us till 6am. Before he could tell the time, he had a light on a timer which came on at 6. He used to stay in bed but wasn't very good at keeping quiet, so I inevitably woke to the sounds of "the wheels on the bus" or similar. Now he reads from 5 till 6. Dd2 is also not allowed to get up till 6 and she lies and whispers to her toy bunny until then. 6 am is definitely a lie in!

DisabilEightiesChick · 17/09/2012 20:09

6am onward is acceptable but I aim for 7. Before 6 and I would be taking them back to their bed.

MummyPig24 · 18/09/2012 06:20

The groclock "wakes up" at 6.40. The children can come into.our room but I won't get up till 7 to do breakfast. Ds used to be up around 5 and it was silly so the geoclock has worked wonders. He woke up at 5.50 for a wee today, hence why I am awake. Hope he and dd have gone back to sleep. A reasonable time to get up is after 6.30.

ZonkedOut · 18/09/2012 06:33

Our groclock is set to 7am. If DD1 (3) comes in earlier, I put her back to bed. DD1 (1.5) wakes up typically around 6.30 but I usually leave her in her cot until 7, she's quite happy singing to herself.

I want to keep 7am as our getting up time, maybe I'm expecting a bit much from DD1, but I do get her if she cries!
