Grin

He slept until 6am GrinGrinGrin

Got his bedroom ready yesterday, got bed and comfy chair set up for me to cope with the wakings better (we just moved out of the room last week and into our new loft room so no longer sharing with him)

After all the preparations and positive talk about doing what needs to be done before tackling him this weekend with expressed milk and DP he blo*dy slept!

He did go to bed an hour and half later (not by design) but even so - its a miracle i tell you Grin

Wonder whether its a one off now...........

Sorry haven't been following the problem but as a sleep deprived mumat the mo I know ho marvellous that must feel. DD2 curretnly waking at least 3 times a night between 1am and 5am.

How old is your S?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2006 12:46

DS is 10.5 months. Not tremendously old - still a baby. But he was waking as often as yours and this coupled with pnd has been a nightmare. (Not including my 2.10 yr old DD - who slept through 7 till 7 from 11 weeks so big shock this time)

He has cried nightly since birth - with the odd few weeks here and there of sleeping a full 7 hours.

So pleased. Not expecting it to last though.

Fantastic news VVVQV ! Hope he keeps it up. (Now at least you know he can do it if there's a wobble or to.) What will you do with all that rediscovered energy?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2006 17:52

Thank you thank you!

Definitely think you scared him into submission Cod Grin

Now, feeding..........

And what time did he go down tonight???

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/03/2006 22:29

Same time.......DP is on late shift and we are still organising house after loft conversion (hence DS finally getting his own room - and us of course). Will gradually work back bedtime to the original 7.30pm though by the end of next week.... Grin

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 11:27

Well, down again at 8.15pm......woke at 7.20am this morning!!!!!!!!!!!

GrinGrinGrin

And only then i think because DD was running round banging on doors shouting for me because she needed the toilet and the door was shut (and she cant reach the handles)

3 days now...... AND he eat quite well yesterday.....so next job to tackle...........lumps and solids.....

hi what exactly do i have to do?

i'm lost!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 12:03

Well, what i did the night before he slept through was patting and shushing to sleep.

(He had been in our room since birth and we had a been awaiting a loft conversion to get our own bedroom).

We moved into our bedroom the first night and i went up and downstairs b/feeding him several times. (He is 10.5 mths btw).

The next night i decided that, because on occasion he had gone through till 5am without feeding - i would pat and shush him but not pick him up - except breifly to calm him and then lay him back down - until it reached 5am and i would feed him.

Anyway - from midnight till 4am i was up and downs stairs and he did scream and scream. It was awful - i wont lie. But i stayed with him - he wasnt alone and i comforted him but he stayed in his cot.

He went to sleep at 4am and then woke up at 6.15am when i fed him.

The next night - at my wits end at the prospect of another 4 hour stint i was msning Cod with some ideas of what to do.

As if by some miracle he slept through from 9pm until 6am. The next night 8.15pm till 7.15am and last night 8.15pm till 7.20am.

I have tried allsorts before but inevitably given in after a few hours or not been able to do more than 2 nights because of DP's work.

I KNEW he could go a certain lenght of time without being fed, i stuck with it - with a good pep talk and it worked.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 12:06

I know now that, he can go to a certain time without needing feeding now. So i needed to have courage of my convictions and patience. Its sooo hard in the middle of the night, but if i stick with patting and shushing he WILL settle eventually.

What have you tried already?

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 12:10

OK - just read your thread and btw - my DD slept through from 7 till 7 from 11 weeks so my DS was a shock for me too!

I dont think for a minute this battle is over but at least im armed with more confidence and persistence now......

OP posts:
Emz25 · 03/03/2006 12:15

well i kind of do that anyway go in settle and leave her in cot to just cry it out but every night is still the same she just won't give up!

i either have an hr of screaming around 12 or 5 every night!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 12:21

So what do you do to stop the screaming?

OP posts:
Emz25 · 03/03/2006 12:26

nothing i just leave her to cry herself back to sleep i check there is nothing wrong first like teeth, nappy e.t.c but then i just leave her otherwise i would have to get her up and that is exactly what she wants which would be giving in right! then she would never settle if she knows she can get her own way!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 12:40

I was doing the same as you with my DS.

Thats why i changed to stay and comfort him by keep laying him back down and patting his back or tummy - depending on whether he had rolled over or not. I dont see it as giving in if he isnt getting out of his cot or being fed.

The idea being that eventually he would be happy to settle himself and not see screaming as the thing to do when he wakes.

I set a comfy bed/chair up in his room to do it.

OP posts:
Emz25 · 03/03/2006 12:49

ar i see!

i'll try that tonight then ur right its not giving in because they still have to stay in bed!

hopefully this will work i'll forget the bottle because she doesn't really need it. it doesn't get drank these days anyway i'll just try her with the dummy and settle her. if anything i think the bottle disturbs her more because she tends to scream louder if i fuss.

well i'll let u know how i get on over the next couple of days
