In the hot weather what do babies wear to bed?

Dd is 9.5 months and I'm confused as to what she should wear to bed when it's hot.

The sun is on her bedroom in the afternoon and evening so it's warm in there by the time it's bedtime (23' to 24'c according to monitor).

Do you put your dc's in body grows or just a vest?

I tried her without her 1 tog grow bag last night but she is used to being in it (suppose a bit like being swaddled and cosy) and took a while to settle so put it back on her in the end.

Sorry if this sounds like a daft post/question.

I used to just put mine to bed in a nappy when it was hot , but that was many years ago

MrsVamos · 24/05/2012 17:54

I used to do the same as usual, just a nappy.

Or, you used to be able to get little 'short sleepsuits' from M&S.

Brices · 24/05/2012 17:54

Mine are in short sleeved vests with sheet over top

CarpeJugulum · 24/05/2012 17:54

Not stupid at all! Confused me when DS was a baby.

If it helps, DS hated not having legs and sleeves on his PJ's so he was in pjs and a cellular blanket only at that temperature or just a tshirts and a 1 tog Grobag.

Now he tolerates shorts and t-shirt pjs and uses his duvet.

But he's like me and hates the cold.

Trial and error was the only solution for us!

BikeRunSki · 24/05/2012 17:58

Last night DD was in a 1 tog Grobag and short sleeved vest, mainly to stop her scratching her eczema, Windows open.

Dprince · 24/05/2012 18:04

Ds id 14 months, he went to bed in his nappy. That was it. Fan on windows open.

seabuckthorn · 24/05/2012 18:06

Just a nappy and his 1 tog gro bag at 10 months
Ds1 at nearly 2 is just a nappy I might put a short sleeve pj top on I'm not sure.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 24/05/2012 18:07

I leave windows open all day and try and create a through-breeze from the opposite room. Blinds down though as soon as the sun hits the room.

Nappy only in bed, or a vest at the very most (a proper vest, not a vest with poppers). Fan on in the room but not blowing directly in the cot. Some people put wet washing in room as well, not sure if this is the right thing to do as my mum always told me it would be give me a 'weak chest'. Hmm

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 24/05/2012 18:08

DD2 5months old went to bed in a short sleeved vest. Even with windows open and fan on said was 26 degrees in her room!

Svrider · 24/05/2012 18:14

I'd go for nappy, vest and very thin cotton blanket
I carnt sleep without a blanket, so assumed dc couldn't either!

Ramekin · 24/05/2012 18:19

We go with short sleeved vest and 0.5 tog sleeping bag for the 11 month old.

Although last year when it was insanely hot and she was 2 months old I had her in just a vest.

Keep curtains drawn during the time of day the sun shines into the room - really makes a difference to how hot it gets.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 24/05/2012 18:25

DDs nursery is 29C! Last year she slept in her nappies. Now she's older (13mo), she undo her nappy by playing with the sticky bit. She will have to wear a vest. Don't fancy risking a dirty mattress.

ToryLovell · 24/05/2012 18:33

Onelittlebabyterror - put the nappy on backwards - makes it harder for them to undo

Bletchley · 24/05/2012 18:35

Just a vest (and nappy, obv)

notcitrus · 24/05/2012 18:45

I think tonight will be just a nappy and a muslin over - a vest was OK last night but tonight is hotter.

Onelittle - try a washable nappy wrap over a disposable nappy - toddlers can't undo poppers easily and they're also good when a nappy gets very wet at night and its weight makes part of it fall away from the baby causing leaks.

BlingBubbles · 24/05/2012 18:48

My dd is 10 months and last night she just had on her short summer pj's, normally put her in a gro bag but didn't last night and won't this evening either. Monitor said it was 25' in her room at 11:00 last night.

Poor things, can't be comfortable for them.

Pudgy2011 · 24/05/2012 18:56

I live in the tropics and our house is "cooled" down to 82oF in the evenings with the A/C - any lower and leccy bills start going through the roof!

Anyway, DS is 8 months and all we put him in is a onesie and pj bottoms, sometimes a sleeper (babygrow). We don't use any blankets or covers at all.

If it was any hotter I'd strip him down to nappy.

CharltonHairstyle · 24/05/2012 19:00

My 11 month old is in pyjamas - little shortie fellas.

BertieBotts · 24/05/2012 19:03

Just a nappy or nappy + vest.

nilbyname · 24/05/2012 19:04

onesie and summer weight grow bag.

Herrena · 24/05/2012 19:05

I went to Primark today and bought some short-sleeved bodysuits (no legs) for DS (11mo) to sleep in. He kicks the cover off so that's pretty much all he'll be in.

I had him in a t-shirt and baggy shorts last night and fretted for hours that he would die of heatstroke in his sleep Blush

BertieBotts · 24/05/2012 19:06

I did once take baby DS in the pram to hospital on a day like today because I was worried about his temperature. OOH doc took one look at him and said "Why on earth have you dressed him in a vest AND sleepsuit?"

Blush

I had done because I was under the impression that he was too young for sun cream and so had to have his arms and legs covered at all times, but I also didn't realise that you could put a sleepsuit on them with nothing underneath, I thought that the poppers might irritate his skin. So he ended up with both.

MainlyMaynie · 24/05/2012 19:24

0.5 tog sleeping bag and short sleeved vest for 11 month old DS. It's 22-24 in our room with the window open at night at the minute. I think that's about what grobag recommend for that temp.

GodisaDj · 24/05/2012 21:14

I love MN! Grin

Thanks all, that's really useful. I put her in one of those onesie's/body grows but a short sleeved and short legged one, with her grow bag on and the windows open upstairs so but of a breeze running through.

I have got plenty of short sleeved vests so will use them too as sleep wear.

I have kept curtains/blinds closed all day and it's kept it cooler in her room.

PFB she is, can you tell?! Blush

Thanks again.

I looked at the chart that came with the 1 tog Gro Bag and it said short sleeved vest and the 1 tog bag so that's what I've done.
