Hi, my lo is 13 months, having a real problem getting him down for a morning nap, only last week where he is a real problem. He doesn't seem to last all the way through until lunchtime without being grumpy, and therefore doesn't sleep as long as he used to during lunchtime sleep ?

Any help and suggestions would be good, don't really know what to do ? Been such a brill sleeper until now, and still want him to have nap in day, what can I do ?

how many naps does he have a day now? two or one?

Kids don't usually drop their only nap until at least 2yrs, so just take him out for an activity that ends at a later time than you would normally put him down for his nap and he'll sleep when tired a bit later IYSWIM

Hmmmmm. My 8-month old has refused his morning nap for three days in a row now. That's despite being up half the night with teething. (Big yawn!)

poppy101 · 23/09/2005 13:23

I wasn't sure if it was a teething problem that is causing him to stop sleeping, but could also be a problem with the disruption of the building work going on.

My dd has just turned a year and has dropped her morning nap, and like yours poppy101 finds it hard to last until lunch time. I started giving her lunch earlier and putting her down for nap earlier. It is still a bit hit and miss - yesterday she had a morning and lunchtime nap as she decided to wake up really earlier and was knackered by 9am so had 30 mins then and her lunchtime nap at 1pm

Jess is 14 months and occasionally has one long sleep from 11.30-2pm and sometimes has morning nap for an hour and afternoon nap for 1.5 hours.... depends what we are doing on a certain day.

hermykne · 23/09/2005 20:28

poppy my ds same age, and he dropped morn nap at 9/10mths. i had to work at it though to keep him awake til noon, for a big nap. bedtime is 7.15/7.30 for him.but i do have dd to keep him occupied til they both nap at noon.

mind oyu she doesnt need it any more, but thats another thread

poppy101 · 23/09/2005 20:30

Perhaps I try over the weekend just keeping on one long nap at lunchtime and hope that he goes back to having a long 2 hours nap durig this lunchtime sleep. I will also try and push the lo to get to bed slightly later so that he can sleep through till 7am and not waked up at 6am. This might help.

poppy my ds wakes now at 7.30 maybe 8, and it was only when he wnet to one nap a day that he did this, prior to that it was 6.30

poppy101 · 23/09/2005 20:36

What age did you put him to bed before the change in wake up ?

OP posts:
hermykne · 23/09/2005 20:38

between 7-7.30
dragggedddd it out..............!

poppy101 · 23/09/2005 20:40

I haven't really ever got my lo to bed after 6.30pm, I think that was the latest, because he is up at 6.30am normally he is ready for bath and bed and wants to go up, I will have to push it to 6.30pm again, but not sure how he will last with cutting out morning nap, he wakes up from lunchtime nap about 2pm normally, not sure what to do.

poppy my ds wakes at 2pm too, now and at 9 mths.
would he nap at 4/5pm maybe for 10/15mins (in the car/buggy)just to push the bedtime a wee bit later?
he will alter himself, h
thou 6am starts are annoying, i was determined to get my ds to sleep later esp with winter morns coming in.

madmarchhare · 23/09/2005 21:04

Dropped morning nap at 10 months, had long afternoon nap around 1.30. Still does at almost 22 months. Bed at 8 til 8.30 ish.

biglips · 23/09/2005 21:06

the last time my 11 months old DD had a morning nap was when she was 5 months old... she only nap in the afternoon for 1 - 2 hours and thats it!!! (poor me!)

biglips · 23/09/2005 21:07

as DD stopped having morning naps by her choice and not mine as she have 9 hours sleep thru the nite so she doesnt really sleep that much in day time

amyxxx · 23/09/2005 23:05

hi. i would suggest putting him down at about 11.30 and loet him sleep till about 1 ish. that way he should last till about 7 or 8. gradually he'll start going down later each morning untill he has just one afternoon nap and will then sleep well at night.
