We are going to Kitzbuel, and they have had fab snow so far. We can't wait....

Where is anyone else going ? And if you are coming to Kitzbuel too, I'll give you a wave from the gondola

I love the magic carpet too and thanks for the white wine tip I will probably need some if I ever venture off the green runs...

Yes it was the Traverse that terrified me I think I might have even been whimpering

Apparently the next step up at the Lecht after the magic carpet and Kestrel is the Eagle (blue run), but I cannot vouch for it yet myself. I have a friend who recently started skiing and after a few lessons and every weekend on the slopes she can do the Eagle - slowly but surely.

I feel a ski trip isn't complete until I've had a cry, and shout 'I'm not going down that!'

Wallace · 07/02/2010 19:28

Didn't go to the Lecht today as we decided to save the money for half term.

However we did drive through it on the way to a family day out (one that is cheaper than skiing!) and it was very poor visibilty.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/02/2010 20:18

Am curious - which adults on here wear ski helmets nowadays?

DC obviously wear them in ski school, but after that poor poor actress last year, am seriously considering one.

The more ambitious a skier i become the more crashes I seem to have and I had one last year that rattled my teeth

I do! Keeps my head warm and I don't lose my goggles or sunglasses as much either.

MelonCauli · 07/02/2010 20:38

I wear a helmet now. It gives me a bit more confidence - god knows I need it. I am also a person who yells "how on earth do you expect me to get down that!" every year.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/02/2010 21:56

I saw children in body armour too for the first time last year, I wonder if that and helmets give them a false sense of security??

Still I reckon I will rent a helmet this year and see how I get on...

I am a helmet wearer (am a boarder). Made DH wear one years ago but must admit I only just started to do so 2 years ago. DCs will be learning so can't have them wearing one if we don't. Tis also warmer than a hat.

France on Saturday!! Can't WAIT. Just worrying that there'll be heavy snow here that prevents our plane (Stansted) from taking off! That would be ironic.

I've been in the Alps in the summer, and when you look at what the mountain bikers wear, it is quite incredible - they look like Darth Vader! I don't fancy that look, but will probably get a helmet this year.

olliepolly · 09/02/2010 13:51

we are leaving from manchester on sunday too should be ok (i hope).
All adults and children in our party now wear helmets.
France here we come.
I always worry about one of kids getting nasty cold/flu in the week before a holiday like this,am always really relieved when we get there.
this year am also hoping my beautifully fitted new ski boots dont get lost in transit!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/02/2010 17:22

This time last year, in the week running up to Feb half Term, our DD had a nasty riding fall and we thought she had broken her arm

We spent much of the day in casualty cos she was 11 and not an emergency, DH was at home checking our holiday insurance and last minute deals to Dubai but happily it was not broken, just badly bruised. They gave her a metal splint thing to wear for three days.

It was sore still when we were skiing but she was so bloody determined, all was well!

We are going up to Glenshee on Thursday for the day. We reckoned it would be quieter than the weekend. Skiied in France two weeks ago so should be ok to ski there.

children are beyond excited!

sophiesmummie · 10/02/2010 13:52

We're going back to Obertauern (Austria) over the Easter holidays. Hopefully the snow will last till then .

BaconWheatCrunchies · 10/02/2010 14:31

I'm worried my ski boots will fit me this year. Last year my brand new boots lost me both my big toe nails and I had them replaced on return for the bigger size. I was between sizes apparently so they sold me the smaller size . If they're still too small I'll go mad.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/02/2010 18:20

Lee36 As i sat in casualty this time last year with a very pale looking sobbing daughter - It did cross my mind WTF were we thinking letting her go riding just before our holiday?! When she fell she hit her forearm very hard on the fencing. They were practicing cantering with crossed stirrups!!!

But we can't wrap them up in cotton wool - she could have broken it 4 weeks before and it would still have been as bad. Ironically the same week, one of her friends tripped up walking to school and broke her wrist. We can't stop them doing everything can we?

( However maybe invest in industrial sized bag of cotton wool and wrap her in it before she gets on the pony on Sat!)

BaconWheatCrunchies I went up a size last year in boots and it was the best thing - wish I'd done it earlier. Ow, sounds v painful to lose toe nails
