Snow boots for (non-walling) 1yr old?

Hello,

We're off skiing in a couple of weeks (woohoo!) and are going through the rather tricky business of sorting out all the relevant kit for the kids.

Where we're getting a bit stuck is on finding some form of snow boot for DS, who's 14 months. We've got DD (3.5yrs) some fab boots from Mothercare, but although they do boys ones that would probably fit DS, they seem far too rigid for somone who doesn't yet walk (he's always been rather lazy when it comes to the whole movement thing!)

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I could find some suitable footware that's warm & snowproof for him?

Many thanks!

Something like these these or http://www.littletrekkers.co.uk/shop/index.php/flypage/897/074f68cecb26bd8e69d093666db302e2 these for buggy/backpack/sled? If he won't be walking anyway I wouldn't worry too much about rigidity as long as you can slide on and off. We took ds before he was walking properly and tbh it was a nightmare as he didn't like the texture of snow. Spent most fo the time on a toboggan with a baby seat and foot muff. make sure he has long cuff mittens and wears layers under a snowsuit.

I have nothing helpeful to add - but I I did read your typo in the title as "non-wailing" child

was thinking - wow I want one of those....but why does he want snow boots for them

WestCountryDad · 28/12/2009 13:17

@Awassailinglookingforanswers

Ooops... non-wailing child would be rather good! I blame the typo on too much Christmas pud making my fingers too fat for the keyboard

@LIZS - thanks for the suggestions!

Have a google for Little Trekkers and Little Skiers.

Little Trekkers are AMAZING - they are primarily www/mail order, but I go to the shop because it it not far from here. They have everything you could possibly want to keep your child warm/dry/sun safe/water safe and happy in The Great Outdoors. And the staff are lovely!

Little Trekkers Snow Boots and Ski Socks

We are going skiing with (currently) 15 month old DS in March. In the snow at the moment e is wearing tiny wool-rich walking socks (from Little Trekkers, the WigWam ones in the link above ) and wellies, although he is walking. And a fabulous Bush Baby snow suit, money extremely well spent.
also Little Trekkers.

Thanks for all these links - just jumping on board, we're taking dd to Chamonix at the end of Jan and she is walking now but not sure how she'll find the snow! Just spent a dangerous amount in the Polarn o Pyret sale on windproof coat and thermals etc so if anyone is going skiing in Feb or March and wants salopettes, ski jacket and thermals in an 80-86, drop me a line!

M & S currently have some snow boots in for babies, I think the smallest size is about a 4. They are £15, come in blue and pink - they are fairly rigid but on the other hand, they are also fairly snow proof. My DD was fine in them (she is 20 months) but every time we went outside it was "mummy, nooooooOOOOOOO, snooooOOOOO, up, up, up....", bless her.

If anyone is still looking for baby/toddler sized snow boots I've just been having a sort out of outgrown ski gear, and amongst it are some virtually unused Canadian snow boots - Canadian size 5 which is a UK size 4. ds2 wasn't walking when we bought them so they've not been used in anger, only to keep his feet warm

Label says "Designed and manufactured for harsh Canadian winters"! They're black moulded rubber around the foot, and navy/grey waterproof fabric on the leg (so probably more a boys colour, but would be ok for either). They have a drawstring to the top of the leg to keep snow out and a velcro tightening above the ankle for a secure fit, with a removable soft felt inner - so you can actually put the inner boot on first and then slide the foot with the inner boot on into the outer boot if that makes sense?

There are also a few other bits in this sort of size, e.g. a 6-12 month Columbia hooded fleece suit with skiing polar bears on it (like this), and a quite a few tops in 6-9 and 9-12 sizes with ski related designs. Could do photos if anyone is interested.

LunarSea, how much would you want for the boots? Are they fairly easy to walk in for a baby who's been walking for a couple of months?!

LunarSea · 04/01/2010 21:39

InDulciJumpilo - I'd say if they can walk in wellies, they could walk in these - depending on the depth of snow of course - as the moulded bottom half is a bit like a wellie, but the top part is more flexible.

I'd be happy with £5 inc postage. I could send you a photo if you like. My email is gill AT (ignorethisbit) gmx DOT co DOT uk - hope that makes sense!

hi lunarsea, I emailed you last week but don't know if it got through? Could you send a pic to december08secretsanta at gmail dot com?

LunarSea · 10/01/2010 21:13

Sorry - obviously didn't get message, but have emailed you pics now.

Probably too late but just spotted these. Same site has a selection for kids and adults.
