Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

I can't get the link to work?

@NCTDN

I can't get the link to work?
I googled the petition number in the end and found it that way
NCTDN · 29/11/2021 21:58

I've found this one?

It's frustrating though when more than one are on the same subject so fewer signatures as they're spread between different people's petitions.

Anyone know if pharmacies on ski resorts are open on Christmas Day? My teen will not be eligible for the booster before we go and will need to be tested every day.

Judging from the petition number, it’s the same one.

I am giving up on our trip, it is just way too much stress, worry and unknowns. We are moving ours to half term or Easter and hope this is all sorted out by then.

mincepiesallround · 30/11/2021 21:46

Sorry, I'm sure this has already been covered but my head's spinning!

We are two double jabbed adults in our 30s and three kids under 10, planning to drive to France so no transit through Switzerland. Does that sound doable at the moment? (Realise all is subject to change!) Family coming from elsewhere are planning to transit through Switzerland which I guess may not be happening...

notimagain · 30/11/2021 21:56

UK to France ATM I think what you describe sounds OK…but as you say, subject to change…

abricotine · 30/11/2021 22:17

It's been clarified that you are ok to transit Switzerland in under 24h (and without a stopover).

SarBear1980 · 01/12/2021 06:51

Is anyone going to Finland with Crystal? Last week I was thinking it was a definite after changing locations from Austria now I’m just not sure - Helsinki has restrictions and testing in place but not the Lapland region from what I can see. I don’t know if I want the drama of rules changing on 19/12 when I’m due to fly that day?? 😩

Fairylights25 · 01/12/2021 07:03

sar you need to be aware that children have to isolate and test if they haven't been vaccinated in Finland. I can't remember the age range, but it is definitely worth checking before you book.

A wider point folks, I have just read in the paper this morning that the UK may be putting some or all of Europe on the red list imminently. This is going to be the final death knell for skiing this winter if it happens.

Schulte · 01/12/2021 07:14

Please no. I don’t want to be stuck in this country again.

Fairylights25 · 01/12/2021 07:20

Sorry, it really is not the best news is it.

But better to know now before we are stuck with a 14,000gbp quarantine hotel bill and stuck there over Christmas I would suggest.

This holiday has felt doomed from the start.
The trouble with passports (they arrived Monday) with the waiting times going up and then the courier "problem" (fortunately not affected)

Cases increasing in Europe

New variant.

I don't even ski. I hate the cold. I go because the children and DH love it...

Schulte · 01/12/2021 07:39

Ok reading that, it’s journos making a sensationalist headline out of nothing Hmm. Right now closing borders with the continent would achieve nothing.

Fairylights25 · 01/12/2021 07:39

Take them to snow world around and book a beach holiday for easter Grin Wine

Fairylights25 · 01/12/2021 07:47

If you read the whole article it goes on to say the Netherlands numbers are very high and rising, and it has already been spreading for ten days and a decision will be made very shortly and is "imminent"
Gillian Keegan said the government are "trying to keep things going" but said they will take "immediate action" to restrict the omicron Covid variant.

Bulgaria of all places have already red listed the EU.

If you honestly think that is 'sensationalist journalism' then go ahead and book and take your chances, and when it is red listed you might want to rethink your strategy of casual dismissal schulte

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/12/2021 07:47

I'm resigned to my snowy purgatory each year. Especially if DH doesn't get his work ski trip. They really missed it last year.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/12/2021 07:50

I have watching cases numbers in France and Andorra carefully. (Transitting through Toulouse to Andorra). I suppose for a small country like Andorra the decision of rising case numbers versus tourist industry must be harder.

artquejtion · 01/12/2021 08:12

Cases are going crazy !!!

everywhere except the UAE Confused, where they currently have people coming in from all over the world for Expo and thousands flew in from South Africa for the Rugby 7's, before they stopped flights a few days ago.

If there wasn't the risk of border closures would you still travel ?

I'm not sure, but I think I would take my chances from a Covid perspective, but the risk of getting stuck somewhere and all the stress around that, is what is really putting me off.

Schulte · 01/12/2021 08:51

It’s difficult but for me right now is not the time to cancel my trip - I would lose money if I did. All I can do is sit tight and hope for the best.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/12/2021 09:02

Yep were liable for 100percent of the cost now if we cancel. So have to wait it out.
