mummydoc · 08/01/2007 15:23

Nip · 08/01/2007 15:32

Les Arcs next saturday- i cant wait! Missed last season as i was pregnant!

(Not taking DS with us - feeling very guilty and sad!)

Nip · 08/01/2007 15:33

Mummydoc - Have you been to the St Louis before - its LOVELY!

mummydoc · 08/01/2007 16:27

nip - no , never used family package type people before, looked at esprit but want something slightly more luxurious i suppose, did you go there with crystal, everyone told me on an earlier thread to saty away from crystal buthtis one is in htere finest brochure and looks fab and they use magic in motion ski school ( high on our must have list ) so it si looking the most likely at moment - please tell me more

mummydoc · 08/01/2007 16:27

oh and we are only taking dd1 and leaving dd2 behind - don't feel guilty!!!

JoolsToo · 08/01/2007 16:36

Am going on a Swiss railway journey and to Chamonix later - both in the summer though. Snow is lovely to look at, other than that, forget it!

AntEater · 08/01/2007 16:48

Come on Jools, its not that bad! We should have some here by the end of the week..

Nip · 08/01/2007 20:58

mummy doc - we went there 2 years ago with crystal but before they turned it into a 'finest' hotel. (it is quite clear to us why they changed it, as it was very under rated before). It wasnt 'luxurious' when we were there but it had a very high standard - it may have changed since going 'finest' (and the price increase would lead you to believe that too!)
It was fantastic, rooms arent massive (but they never are when sking as you prob know) but food is great, staff were lovely and we met loads of new friends whilst we were there. We also got really nice baguettes to take out for lunch each day! Boot room is right next to the front door and a really great size too.
The slopes are a walk across a one way road (very very quiet) and thru a small walk way and your on the slopes!! You can then ski down to the lifts. And to get back you can get a short lift and ski thru the walk way to the road.
I guess the only down side is that to get to the centre/shops etc its a steep walk down (and back up) but its certainly not a long walk.
Its a really fab place and i'd recommend it to anyone - we actually tried to get there this winter (nxt wk) but its fully booked!!
I've never found any probs with Crystal - but i suppose its pot luck nowadays.

walks away thinking she may have got a tad excited about this place!!

JoolsToo · 08/01/2007 21:51

anteater - aaaaaargh!!!

currently drowning in all the rain!

CindyLou · 09/01/2007 14:26

Just back from Austria (Niederau - Thomson) - excellent kids ski school - kids eager to go again, so we are off to La Rosiere with Esprit @ half Term ( thanx mumnet - got the info from here!!!) then if no broken bones will be in Norway at Easter (Neilson) - any info on that appreciated

alp · 09/01/2007 14:29

Just got back from Les Arcs and off to Tignes at beginning of Feb. Thanks to those who recommended Spirit 1950 ski school - DD loved it!! (3.5 and her first time on skis)Snow is really nice out there for all of you going soon - Enjoy!

Nip · 09/01/2007 14:33

Alp - How was Les Arcs? I'm going on Saturday, is the snow good? Is there a good range of runs for intermediates?

mummydoc · 09/01/2007 20:37

thanks nip, especially the description of the access, my DH wants ski in ski out - is it possible if you are a very new intermediate ?? i didn't think the prices where too bad, especially as dd1 will go for 150 quid as opposed to 600 odd with mark warner.

Nip · 10/01/2007 08:40

I'm 99% sure that its a green run that takes you to the walk way (if not a blue) but its really flat and easy. Your DH will be fine, its a lovely place with some huge easy motorway like runs.
There arent that many ski-in, ski-out places in courchevel unless you have one of the v.expensive hotels that are on the slopes, but this really is as close as you can get... it must be all of a 30 second walk (in ski boots )
I hope you get to go there and have a fab time....

prettybird · 10/01/2007 08:54

Mummydoc - whicj chalets are you thinking of with Ski Cusine? We know most of their chalets, as we used them for many years.

We stopped when they stopped using what we though was their best chalet - not necessarily the best equipped (which was thier reason for stopping) but it's the best located chalet in Meribel - truly ski in ski out and with a fabulous view of the slope - as you can see (my dh took the top right picutre of the group of four)

We eventually found out that the owners were now running it/them (it's actually a pair of linked chalets) and managed to stay there the follwoing year. They're normally booked as whole chalets, but you can contact them and see if they're prepared to do individual booking - we did! The week you are wanting is still free for Cecilia - which is our preferred chalet of the two (Room 1 in the best!)

We're off to Meribel on 9 Feb for the week - we're being baaaad parents as Scottish schools don't get a full week, so we have to take ds (6) out of school for a few days.

We've managed to find a chalet close to Cecilia, so it is only a short walk to the slope that takes you straight into the Chaudanne (the main meeting area). It'll be ds' third week skiing, so this year he should be making the transition to "proper" skiing - and we'll be struggling to keep up! Can't wait!

prettybird · 10/01/2007 08:58

Oh - and Mummydoc - Cecilia/Veronica are on a blue slope and are perfectly suitable for new intermediates as ski in/ski out.

alp · 10/01/2007 15:08

Nip - Les Arcs was good - We stayed in 2000 which is a bit souless as it didn't seem to have a main centre to go to just a big Club Med. Arc 1950 is lovely (done like a US resort) which you can ski too easily via blue run, have lunch then carry on in the afternoon after a vin chaud or two! We had buckets of snow when we were there (could go out one day as it was too thick and no visability) so it should still be nice as they'll be grooming it. There are a huge variety of runs some of the blues are next to the reds so you can have a look and see if they look OK enough to do! Have fun

sauce · 11/01/2007 07:21

I'm here (near Geneva) & yes, lots of snow & more to come! I'd love to go up but a bit broke after Xmas.

maltesers · 11/01/2007 10:49

hi mn skiers... i am off to Bulgaria on jan 27 with some friends. My 3rd time skiing and love it. Went to french alps two years back. Havnt had a hol since so looking fwd 2 it. Flying to Sofia and staying at Hotel Bor in Borovets. Now a single mum and going with out kids . . . GREAT !

mummydoc · 11/01/2007 11:50

we were looking at ski cuisine chalet richard - though not ski in / ski out they said they had a minibus on-call all day to ferry you around ?? DH very anti this as had similar promise last year form chalet in different resort and it didn't happen so lots of bus rides and frantic taxis to get dd from ski school at other end of valley etc. hence the desire for ski in ski out or a snear as damm it, shamm really as I think ski cuisine looks fab ( i like my food!!!) and they can get a nanny for dd

VoiceofDoom · 11/01/2007 12:16

Hope you're all at least carbon off-setting your air travel, winter sports enthusiasts, or you'll have bugger all snow in a few years time.
