I got my dcs passports in exactly a week last week. I didn't even do check and send, I just sent them in the ordinary post.

yogabird · 08/02/2014 08:04

Going to ring again when the passport office opens. Dh off to get forms shortly, prising kids out of bed to get them photographed shortly. THanks so much everyone - feels worse this morning though Sad

Sorry if I,ve missed something haven't read the whole thread but you aren't going away till September? Why the panic? It takes a week or so to get a passport this time of year? And that's without paying the old bint in the post office £9 to check the form!

MirandaWest · 08/02/2014 08:12

Thr OP says they're going away next Saturday and this is in the skiing section so I think there is some urgency.

Alwaysbloodyhungry · 08/02/2014 08:13

Shit I,ve just seen SAT not SEPT! I,ll open my eyes now! Gosh I hope you get them I really do....

Alwaysbloodyhungry · 08/02/2014 08:14

Didn,t even see the SKIING bit either! Sorry! gets coat

Incacola · 08/02/2014 08:22

Good luck! I hope you get this sorted OP.

FireMaker · 08/02/2014 08:28

Agree about just turning up at the passport office if you can't get an appointment. Someone is bound to not show up for their appointment.

PestoStormissimos · 08/02/2014 11:46

Am sending you whilst currently waiting for my DD's passport. Sent off the renewal on 29th January and tracking shows it arrived in Belfast on 30th Jan, but still not back yet Sad

jo164 · 08/02/2014 15:53

This happened to us last summer, only we were flying the next morning. My husband and daughter whose passport had run out managed to get a same day appointment in Liverpool for the Tuesday, whilst myself and younger daughter flew out on holiday on the previous Sunday. We had to book new flights for them to join us on the Wednesday - luckily this wasn't an issue and there were some available. They just took all the necessary forms with them including pictures, and went to the appointment. They were issued with the passport 4 hours later. It looks like this service is available in some of the passport offices. Hope you have got it sorted,, Ive never felt so awful as when I had to tell my daughter....

Trapper · 08/02/2014 16:03

Same day premium service for kids was stopped last week I think. I read it in the Sunday times travel section last week. I've tried to find it but I think it has already been recycled.

Best of luck.

I did this once (my passport, not kids) and ended up flying out a couple of days later. Trains in Austria are pretty good and lots of flight options. Hoping it doesn't come to that obviously.
It may also be worth checking your holiday insurance to see if you have any cover for a member if your party's documents expiring. Doubt it, but may be worth checking?

If you are near London - you can use this agent

www.benmar-ltd.co.uk/uk-passport/4555342002

You take all the paperwork to them, they have slots at the passport office so do it on your behalf. Got my son's passport done when we had a week to go before hols - got it back the next day

You pay a fee, but it's obv much cheaper than changing hol or rebooking flights

Keeping everything crossed and things are looking better. I LOVE the people in Newport who moved mountains for us today. We aren't out of the woods (they have to be posted to us) yet but have a much better chance now of getting them before we have to leave next Sat at 8am. Holding my breath until the post arrives. Thanks all for your advice and positive vibes - just hoping that by Fri they are here Can face a glass now - couldn't swallow last night Wine

Nightmare!! How stressful for you. Fingers crossed you get them in time.

helencw77 · 09/02/2014 23:04

Glad that Newport were helpful, I bet the passports will be back by Tues/Weds and you will wonder what all the panic was for Wink. I can still remember taking dd there when she was just five days old for her one-week service - must've been mad !!

ATacticalNameChange · 11/02/2014 08:31

Any news, OP???

yogabird · 11/02/2014 19:29

nothing yet.... it's a race to check the post when we get back each day. Keeping everything crossed will SO enjoy it if we can go!

that's good news. have a lovely holiday

ATacticalNameChange · 12/02/2014 19:05

Whew :) That is such good news. Am very aware of cost of half-term skiing. That would have been a serious financial hit. Jave a great time!

MrsExcited · 12/02/2014 19:12

Fab, some positive news

handcream · 12/02/2014 19:18

Phew, really good news. However can I pass on a tip please that someone gave me.

Dont EVER store your old passport with your new ones.. They cut off the corner when they send the old one back but she didnt see that when she collected the families passports together.

Only spotted at the airport. Wouldnt let her fly... She has to stay behind and sort out and DH and other child flew off.

The thing is it COULD happen to any of us. However organised we are, these things to happen....

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/02/2014 19:23

Brilliant news Grin

Well done for getting it sorted - and with time to spare! Now for the packing........
