No you don't have to go in person.

But I would, without the kids.

Starsandsun, I did this for dd last summer too (we live abroad so same-day renewal most practical for us) but if you look at the UKPO website it does look as if the service is no longer available.

They have recently changed it so you now can't do it in less than 7 days. We have to leave here at 9am next sat to get flights. Thinking not great thoughts. Can't even face a glass of wine till I know

O, sorry OP, how stressful! I wonder why they still allow it for adults, but stopped it for kids?! Hope you'll find a way x

You can do children's passports on a single day turn around. Dh did it for ds when he screwed up the application. And that was for a first passport too, which you apparently can't fast track.

Good luck. Ime, the passport office will do all they can to help you out. They were really helpful when we were in the same position (but with only 3 working days before we were due to fly!)

What about driving out? They only looked to see that we had enough passports for the number of people in the car when we went through the channel tunnel.

I would still call the airline.

When did you do it newbluecoat?

It's nothing to do with the airline, they will check the passports again at border control when you enter Austria.

Just ensure that all paperwork is correct. Last year had one day service for my son in Victoria. The photo had a shadow by his ear (I had paid photo company to take it, not a photo booth). They rejected it. Lady was very nice gave me a two hour window to sort it. Thankfully found a Kodak shop around the corner who photoshopped the photo to remove the shadow. I was practically crying with frustration.

Yes seems one day service no longer available if under 16. Odd heat difference does it make?

only option that I can see is 7 day turnaround..any chance you can slightly change travel plans by a day or so

Jean I am well aware of that. The airline however have first decision because of cla for undocumented passengers and they will be able to advise whether the agreement that allowed travel on documents up to a year past expiry is in place at the destination.

I did the seven day service three weeks ago. Went to Newport passport office on the Wednesday and passport arrived Friday.

Haunted....yes I know that used to be a possibility....I wonder if it still is?
Worth a try op

I can only vaguely remember the acronym we used for the countries involved so can't even Google it.

If getting the passports isn't viable, how about changing the holiday dates? If you are going with a Tour Op they may well oblige because they will easily be able to resell the holiday. Take kids out of school, pay the fine if you get one. Of course you would need willing employers.....

I am just gutted on your behalf.

The only other thing I can think of is crying at the passport office or asking your MP to call border agy on your behalf. I have no idea if latter will work.

Do the 7 day service, I did it earlier in year and had passport back within 72 hours. At this time of the year I wouldn't expect them to be very busy.

I'd say 7 day service too. I've done both the 7 day service and gone in ourselves. Both have arrived 2 or 3 days later.

Have used the 7 day service before and got passport a few days later. It will be fine.

we did it lst year. the website was saying premium one day service not available for chidlren, but dh talked to them over the phone, and got an appt. they did then do a same day renewal turnaround, but instead of dh brining it home (can't remember why) it was posted on next day delivery.

he went to Peterborough office on the Monday, and our flights were on the Thursday. Passport squeaked in just in time, and all was ok. this is a quiet time of year, so you should be ok.

I'm not sure I would bank on the 7 day service. I had to do this for my DS last year, and the passports arrived literally at 5.30pm on the 7th day after the day they processed it (so a week and a day really). We had to book another flight at great expense.

I really feel for you, I too have used the 7 day service and have had the passport back within two days. I went to Newport passport office and it was very easy to get the train there (walking distance of station and easy to find), there were no queues, I was 45 minutes early for my appointment and just went straight through and I got the passport back really fast - much easier than London where I have also been.

I really hope you get it sorted, we had a crisis this year as returning from our Xmas hols on the Isle of Man I left our five passports on the plane and had to get them all replaced a month ago (long story and somewhat ridiculous), I used check and send and the passports came back after 10 days, so I'm sure the premium 7 day service will get them back in time at this time of year, you just really need an appointment on Monday.

Good luck.

I would also add that if you are really really stuck I would just go to Newport on Monday (only because I had a good experience there, I'm sure all others would be the same apart from maybe London as it's so manic) and wait all day to see if they had any cancellations or could fit you in. I bet if you get it in on Monday you will have the passports back by Thursday. If you have the expired passports etc there should be no problems at all, mine was a quick turnaround for dd and it was her first passport (lol, we had booked to go on hols to Spain when she was 3 weeks old and she was a week late !!), my lost passports were also quick even though I was told it would take longer.

I might also add that ages ago I used the one-day service for a lost passport (mine) and they had said categorically "no one-day service for lost passports", but in reality they did do it in a day because I had to travel the next day so I think there is some flexibility in their decision making.......
