(think of the advertising revenue mn)

As in you have to be signed in to view it? I wouldn't be against it

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 12/11/2009 21:21

But isn't this exactly what the whole moldies shebang was trying to achieve?

frakkinaround · 12/11/2009 21:24

Surely anyone can sign up, sign in and view?

And saying that it'd only be for people with CAT is just excluding people who don't want/can't afford CAT.

OP posts:
alwayslookingforanswers · 12/11/2009 21:25

no

LIZS · 12/11/2009 21:27

I'm not sure tbh . I can understand why wanting to post so the whole world can't see would be tempting, but can't see how access criteria and choice of topics could be effectively applied without it being perceived as cliquey and elitist or open to abuse by those who are already of the mind to stalk.

southeastastra · 12/11/2009 21:28

i just mean one to one conversations nothing signed up, probably worded title wrongly

OP posts:
alwayslookingforanswers · 12/11/2009 21:29

MSN, Facebook chat, email..........

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 12/11/2009 21:30

Oh god no, not chat rooms

Stick to what you are good at. MNHQ are having enough trouble keeping the site up as is, do you really want to poke it more?

Does this help your cause at all?

sb6699 · 12/11/2009 21:44

Sorry, no, this is a PUBLIC forum.

If you have friends on here you can e-mail/CAT/messenger them and it will remain private.

The problem with having a private section is that it would make the boards "cliquey" and could make "newbies" too intimidated to post. Without newbies it would just be a chat room and gradually the wealth of experience/knowledge that is MN would disappear.

Hullygully · 12/11/2009 21:45

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha ha

sb6699 · 12/11/2009 21:49

(and I cant bear to even think of reading 6 weeks worth of endless threads about it)

Hullygully · 12/11/2009 21:52

But am curious now, how would it work?

WilfSell · 12/11/2009 21:55

Weeeeeeell. At the risk of re-opening Moldiegate...

MNHQ did tell a number of us on a thread related to our jobs that they were indeed considering some private spaces - so we could share our RL identities without revealing ourselves unwittingly to snooping colleagues.

But then the DM thing kicked off so suspect it got binned shelved.

I only care about the issue for that particular purpose. I am a bit for any other purpose.

scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 22:03

if someone on mn such a genuine mate you'd have personal email you wouldn't need a private invite only page

if the only way you interact with someone is mn a web based public forum then they are NOT a friend.they are a like minded individual you engage with

private inevitably lacks the spontaneity and frisson of an open thread.lookey folk might not likey all contributions but imagine private threads of affirmative i hear you feel your pain

southeastastra · 12/11/2009 22:05

but personal email isn't the same as live chatting, and my msn is broken

tut, alright, alright

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 22:07

but by selecting/omitting posters it isnt mn,open access as was intended

want to chat to mates and exclude unknowns?
email
msn
facebook
text

Hullygully · 12/11/2009 22:11

HOW WOULD IT WORK?

scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 22:12

how dull,no dissenting or tangential opinions just all affirmative

fuck that

southeastastra · 12/11/2009 22:16

yeah but if someone just wanted to say hello personally to someone, msn or facebook are the only options. just thinking mn could have a similar thing.
