Our next book, Pregnancy: The Mumsnet Guide, will be rolling off the presses and into bookshops in September.

So to tie in with this, we're doing a short survey about pregnancy.

More specifically, the stuff you are/aren't meant to do. Yep, we're talking drink, drugs and hard-core runny cheeses.

Complete the survey and your name will go into a draw for two lovely prizes, courtesy of Luxury Family Hotels and Child-Friendly Cottages.

TIA for taking part.

I agree that the negatives questions were a bit confusing, I was not sure whether to say;

YES I never smoked during my pregnancy
or NO I never smoked during my pregnancy

And also agree that the pasteurisation question is a bit misleading, many people believe (wrongly) that pasteurised Brie and Camembert are ok, and the survey seems to confirm this. I think your question should say something like "Soft mould ripened cheeses like brie or unpasteurised cheeses like unpasteurised feta"

theyoungvisiter · 10/08/2009 16:04

fluffybunny, I think it is supposed to come back again blank to allow you to complete it differently for different pregnancies (eg I ate peanuts in one pregnancy but not in another so I filled it out twice).

I've completed this but my answers vary wildly depending on whether or not I knew I was pregnant early on. If we're all being honest quite a few people who don't find out to they are about three months will find they've done some pretty dodgy stuff if you are pregnant (I was spending weeks up scaffolding and falling off ladders when I was pregnant with DD - I stopped when I found out I was up the stick obv. ).

I also felt uncomfy with q 5 (amount of alcohol drunk in pg) as Iknew I'd drunk much less than 1-3 units average per week.

MrsHappy · 10/08/2009 20:01

Oh dear. Having read the thread I think I may have answered the questions by saying that I am a drug-taking, toxoplasmosis-carrying, cheese-scoffing alcoholic (which I am definitely not). Never mind. Can I plead pregnancy-related fudge brain?

Also, can I ask what is wrong with wearing underwired bras?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 10/08/2009 20:33

My God I was such a lick arse when pregnant!
I stopped drinking whilst ttc and didn't drink any alcohol during pregnancy, though I'm not a massive drinker anyway. I'm a none smoker and rarely take pain medicine, so most of the stuff to avoid was fairly easy.
In terms of the food, I didn't eat so many food groups while pregnant, though luckily that was mostly due to the fact that the morning sickness I had lasted all day, meant that the sight/smell of vegetables and meat and dairy made me sick, so I lived on plain buttered cobs, extremely pureed mash potatoes, chips and mars bars.

Before ttc I knew that there were food groups that were best avoided, but I was shocked by all the other things I hadn't thought about - such as hot baths / saunas etc, which was especially pissy when I was 3 months pg and at a health farm, unable to do anything!

halfway through. Pmsl that I had to tick yes to "Get pregnant whilst drunk!" (I need an extra box for... taking strong painkillers too)

In my defence - back pain from car accident and on a ttc schedule. It was the only way it was gonna happen

I'm another one who may have inadvertently announced that I am high on crack at all times, and drinking like a fish (well, that expression has never made sense but ykwim).

I feel like I should do the survey for babies 1 & 2, and watch how the goodness level slips for each one

Flamesparrow · 10/08/2009 20:58

Just noticed the dates for luxury family hotels - they are all about families aren't they? A midweek break for a family which must be taken in term time?? Plus, a whole generous 2 months to take it in - conveniently for me either side of due date

The other one is also no holidays, but at least you get a bigger time frame to use the prize (ie not yanking them out of school during the first half term in a new class)

am i the only one that wishes they would put a date for winners on these? maybe because i always think i might win (never do )

Horton · 10/08/2009 21:46

I'm now worried that I said that I took illegal drugs regularly throughout my pregnancy (I didn't) because I answered no. Agree, v confusing. Dates would be an excellent idea.

ArcticLemming · 11/08/2009 09:42

Agree that there should be an option for less than 1 unit a week of alcohol for occassional drinkers during pregnancy.
Am also now wondering if I gave the impression of a wild rock and roll lifestyle during pregnancy due to misreading the questions!
