I was going to do it today but seeing the reviews I think I will pass. Looks like too much hard work.

onagar · 13/05/2009 10:02

Will it let you go to Scunthorpe council

Jux · 13/05/2009 12:35

It doesn't like FO in any circumstances!

Actually, I think it's quite fun to have my typing monitored to such an extent that I can't type 'follow' for instance without a warning coming up! (It's OK Adrian, I know how to stop it.)

Jux · 13/05/2009 12:38

onager, it let me go to scunthorpe council but it was unhappy when I typed it. I'll check the report, hang on.

Jux · 13/05/2009 12:46

It's really really unhappy with FO and FU. There's a lot of that smutty stuff hanging around in Mumsnet...

gill89 · 13/05/2009 17:18

i seem to have resolved my main problem by telling it to work invisibly.

will go and check log thingy.

Anyone else experiencing problems with theri computer sonce downloading this? Only thing I have downloaded this week. Today my computer wouldn't load Windows for ages - said some software was causing problems. Tooka while to sort.

gill89 · 13/05/2009 17:45

the onbly other problem i have had was that google toolbar disapperaed last night and refused to return.

however when i have turned on today it is back.

but this could be unrelated

OP posts:
foofi · 13/05/2009 18:45

Still lovin' it here...

Jux · 14/05/2009 11:54

For Adrian:

One of the things I didn't like when I downloaded and installed it was that when the computer restarted, CyberSentinel opened up IE. I never use IE, it would have been better if it could check what my default browser was then opened that.

Also when downloading it suggests that you turn off your firewall. I hate that though I understand why it might be necessary. However, I left my firewall on and it downloaded and installed fine anyway - though my firewall went into overdrive for a little while!

Jux · 14/05/2009 11:59

How does it know when my dd is using this computer?

OK, I think I have to change the settings on start up so we use passwords to get into windows, right? I see how this would work if we have separate machines and until such time will monitor my own use as well as hers! (She hasn't been on a computer at all this week as we've just put up a trampoline and she's having more fun outside!)

CyberSentinelExpert · 14/05/2009 14:18

Jux,

Thanks for your comments, i will check why it opens IE after installing - it should launch the instructions web page in the default browser.

We put the advice about firewalls etc in to reduce the chances of the installation being interfered with. When installing, i'm surprised more anti-spyware systems don't recognise it as spyware - since the technology is exactly that - in a nice way

The only known issue we have had of anti-spyware conflicting so far has been Virgin Media's Home Protect system. The install works fine if you turn this off temporarily as asked.

CyberSentinelExpert · 14/05/2009 14:25

Thank you all for your comments so far.

One change we're thinking of making straight away is to disable the popup message warnings that are turned on by default after first installing. This will remove the number of intrusive messages, whilst still logging and recording activity on the server for you to see via the console.

One big bit of advice I'd give is don't turn everything on straight away - just install the home software and let it monitor the PC for a couple of days so you can become familiar with what it captures.

Jux · 14/05/2009 14:49

I rather enjoy those pop up windows, but I've always been contrary!

When dd decides to get off the trampoline and return to normal sedentary life, and takes up her usual seat in front of the computer, those messages will no doubt drive her mad.

I'm tempted to put it on dh's machine and watch him spontaneously combust!

BONKERZ · 14/05/2009 17:45

lol it is definately good for spying on DH! LMAO not that he ever gets up to much apart from rude words in scrabble! LMAO

gill89 · 14/05/2009 18:03

i am getting to like it but wnat to know...

will it log MSN?

i can see a web chat option but it doesn't seem to be doing that.

Hi
Just looking through some of your comments, thanks for taking the time . I notice that some comments are about how users start getting monitored - so here is some background. CS starts working when the computer starts up and as soon as someone logs in, it looks up its records to find the settings that apply to that user. The first time it notices a user, it creates a new record using the default settings. So if you are sharing computers like me at my house with my kids, it is a good idea to give them all their own logins on the computer and then set them up in the Settings page of the console ('visible' or 'invisible' mode for ds and dd, 'suspend' for you and dh). Changes in the console are updated within an hour back on your computer, or the next time the user logs in.

Jux · 15/05/2009 17:37

Thanks, that is very clear.

However, before I change that on my m/c I will let dd get on it (it's in the sitting room so I always know when she's using it and half the time I'm sitting next to her and can see what she's doing). The minute I see something I don't like I'll change the login procedure.

cheryl59 · 16/05/2009 07:19

It does seem very over sensitive, and I think it's slowed down my computer quite a lot too. Not sure I'll keep it once I've finished evaluating it.

gill89 · 16/05/2009 08:57

why does my google toolbar keep disappearing and refusing to return?

is it something to do with the installation of CS or a strange coincidence?
