You might remember filling in a survey about your Mumsnetting habits for some academic types a while back, yes? Anyway here are the results/conclusions they've come up with and jolly interesting reading they make too, non?

What were the other 4%, trolls?

JosieMiller · 24/04/2009 14:25

Rhubarb · 24/04/2009 14:25

I got told off once. I think.

SarahPedersen · 24/04/2009 14:26

Not everyone who responded to the survey answered all the questions - so that is why the figures sometimes do not add up to 100%.

Rhubarb · 24/04/2009 14:26

JM, your style is way too familiar there!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/04/2009 14:31

Oh okay so only 96% answered the 'are you a mum or a dad question'?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/04/2009 14:31

Rhubarb, I thought much the same.

yappybluedog · 24/04/2009 14:37

not days JM but YEARS

I am a fraek

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 24/04/2009 14:45

The entertainment thing is spot on, definitely. I visit various forums, some for pure support, some for education, but MN is the only place that I'll be happy to while away an hour giggling and being silly as well as those other things.

MrsJamin · 24/04/2009 14:51

The bit I liked best was: 68% of respondents ticked the top two categories provided, 2-5 times a day, or "more frequently". That's a whole lot of addicted people!

mollyroger · 24/04/2009 14:57

''79 per cent said they have bought something after a MN recommendation...''

People should pay us lot

It's funny. In real life I am absolutely a lurker, the world's greatest, a hoverer on the edge. But on MN I jumped in after about 10 minutes lurking and now I never shut up.

ABetaDad · 24/04/2009 15:12

I wish I had been on MN when the survey was done as I would have bumped the man quota up to a whole 2. Who was it - PadDad, UQD? I really want some other Dads on here. Can't some of you get your DH/DP to join.

I also lurked (like a total coward) for well over a year and then my wife strongly encouraged me to join even though she will not.

However, I am used to online communities so did not worry about other peoples responses. That said people can be very very judgely and confident on MN. I got flamed for a while. TBH it is like a sort of initiation ceremony.

I will not post much on some areas of MN though even when feel very strongly about the issues.

I love MN. It has helped me understand my wife and DSs better, definitely made me ABetaDad and made me a laugh a lot too.

Peachy · 24/04/2009 15:54

Me too Threadie; maybe that's what Mn is comrosed of, a whole lot of almost-outsiders?

Would exlpain rather a lot LOL! (the addiction for a start)

I liked the bit about lurkers no9t posting coz of no reply. Erm, if ypou're posting questions that dont get a reply you're not a lurker, you're normal LOL

JosieMiller · 24/04/2009 16:12

GOOD

pagwatch · 24/04/2009 16:25

at Lenin
It is surely a redundant question.
They should have a new word for those who strop off for a while rather than actually decide to leave.... huffed maybe ...or bogged

Flouncing and coming back always makes me think of DD edging around the door when she has stormed up to her room but no one followed

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 24/04/2009 17:30

What do you actually have to do to be told off by MN? Am intrigued.

I would have thought the entertainment thing was important to most online communities, I wouldn't come here if I didn't enjoy the threads.

Peachy · 24/04/2009 17:35

I've never been told off by MN but have tried in the past to receive that ticking off. Once you get a name as reasonable then a few rude comments (ahem) doesn't wash, it seems.

ShellingPeas · 24/04/2009 18:47

Can you have degrees of lurking? I rarely post mostly because I don't feel I have anything new, interesting or witty to add, but do love reading some threads as they are very clever and funny.

So I am partly a freak for lurking but mostly a coward as I don't want to be shouted at, even though only in cyberland!

I did read on one thread (whilst lurking) that someone got scolded for being too nice!

ShellingPeas · 24/04/2009 18:48

Scolded by MN HQ that is, not just a general bollocking.

Peachy · 24/04/2009 18:49

Ah SP that was Lulu IIRC LOL.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/04/2009 20:34

Am I the only one that thought it sad such a high percentage avoid the special needs topic?

BitOfFun · 24/04/2009 20:38

I think it's more that they haven't opted in...I explained that I didn't use it because I generally use the site to escape my worries and relax after nights at the coalface of special needs (!) and that it's not because I'm a horrible person iyswim...

MARGOsBeenDrinkingTea · 24/04/2009 20:41

I'd love to be told off by MN HQ
