As suggested by Swedes, a snapshot 'yea or nay' poll to get your verdict on the Budget. Mumsnetters are discussing the Budget here

Done. But could I just point out that the two statements in the question don't necessarily go together. For example, the budget will have precious little impact on me and my family but I still support some of the govt's economic decisions...

morningpaper · 23/04/2009 11:47

yah what Will said

policywonk · 23/04/2009 11:51

That's what I said too!

I think it's a good budget - pity it took a crisis to force Labour to remember the s-word. Again - doesn't affect me at all really, except to give me a nice warm feeling (goes and cuddles childhood teddy bear, name of Jack Jones - he died yesterday, there was a proper socialist - teddy still very much with us).

(oh, done btw)

mumblechum · 23/04/2009 13:05

Thumbs down for me we'll be worse off as DH will lose personal allowances and pay more tax.

done - and I agree with Wilf.

We are about the same if not slightly worse off, but I still support most of the changes.

Hassled · 23/04/2009 13:47

We will be marginally better off. W would be better off still were it not for our wine consumption, but I'm guessing I would be unreasonable to blame the government for my appetite for wine.

And yes, I was reasonably happy. Not leaping up in joy happy, more quietly pleased happy.

GeraldineMumsnet · 23/04/2009 13:55

I agree with Wilf too. Brain/typing interface malfunction, should really have been 'family's future', or something along those lines, shouldn't it? apologies all round.

OOh it's close isn't it? Closer than my straw poll on the other thread.

wickerman · 23/04/2009 17:22

Sitting on fence
Think more Isas/more money for pensioners, carbon fund - not enough but good start - higher tax rate for uber rich/initiatives for youth unemployed - all good.

Not quite sure about point of car thing.
To keep our car manufacturers going, like a war effort?

Think money for Id cards CRAZY
Think way not enough being done for child poverty
Not happy with cuts to arts - arts are one of the main reasons we get tourists in the Uk, also our 3rd biggest revenue spinner (don't know what top two are - please supply)and the "cultural Olympiad" seems faip(new acronym - for all intents and purposes) to be so much irrelevant short termist wank.

morningpaper · 23/04/2009 17:26

I worry about the child poverty thing

Who is left campaigning for this? It used to be such a Labour thing but it has drifted by the wayside

policywonk · 23/04/2009 17:29

Save the Children campaign on UK child poverty.

Hulababy · 23/04/2009 19:12

Thumbs down - we will be worse off, esp in a year or two's time.

policywonk · 23/04/2009 19:15

Child Poverty Action Group

End Child Poverty (I think this one is an unmbrella organisation)

That's probably enough to be going on with

treedelivery · 23/04/2009 19:58

Am £uselessamountofmoney better off, household income of £35k [1 full timer 1 part timer, manufacturing blue collar & NHS] and no drink/smokes here [mn only vice]. 2 kids under 4.

Bit peeved to have been given no breathing room AGAIN. My family certainly ccan't help to spend country out of growth contraction the crap.

Thumbs down from us - but then I have nothing beter to offer as a solution so had better suck it up and keep the hot water boiler turned off for another season.

Quattrocento · 23/04/2009 20:04

thumbs down

THe only bad thing about Gordon Brown imminently being voted out is that David Cameron will be in Number 10
