Will there be a thread to discuss nominations, or will it all be secret through email?

It must be a hard task doing the judging.
It must be bloody harder than the Christmas appeal, so I dont envy you this task. A whole holiday stands to gain for one lucky winner, wow....

But, what criteria do you use to judge? If I were to put myself somebody forward, so to speak....

What I really would like to ask is:

???? why? What the fuck are you thinking?

maybe i could ask dh, to hold the broom up a little so you can all see my killer legs!!

In all honesty though, how many do you think will nomanite themselves?

psychomum5 · 17/04/2009 22:50

even

damn the DD2 and her pressing buttons.

see, I am not perfect, she is still up

Ronaldinhio · 17/04/2009 23:09

How can we nominate anyone above another? What someone admirably copes woth would dement another and vice versa.

Is it a we all all nominage someone and they are genuinely pulled from a hat?
Otherwise who can decide who is truly more deserving that whomever else?

Sorry that this has been said before

saint2shoes · 17/04/2009 23:11

I still think it is a horrid idea

Ronaldinhio · 17/04/2009 23:13

Can it be like Oscar night though? With some one of the vipers from style assasinating the nominees personal stlying for the event?

lisad123 · 17/04/2009 23:18

I dont think just one winne, think it need to be a few imo, also why is he prize for only 4? this mean large families cannot go, and they do amazing jobs

BeckhamSpice · 17/04/2009 23:24

Maybe you could pick up tips on nominating- and writing that all important sales pitch here

As that's where HQ seem to have found their inspiration...

Ronaldinhio · 17/04/2009 23:24

just pick a name at random and give the prize to someone

nominating sounds like pity porn

lisad123 · 17/04/2009 23:29

oh bugger, i doubt i will win then not smiley enough (maybe should use different broom)

sad stories fo my life, arent enough, I work with families, but am paid to do it, rather than volunteer.

Oh well maybe next year, things will be worse for me just so i can win this

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 17/04/2009 23:32

why does it have to be about sob stories / tragedies? can't it just be about someone fab / who has done fab things?

... nah. agree with names in hat as least grim scenario...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/04/2009 00:36

QS, you are eminently sensible, as ever.
Justine did you get my nomination for Kerry Katona?

QuintessentialShadow · 18/04/2009 09:22

lol at "eminently sensible" - that is not something you hear too often....

OP posts:
GracieGrace · 18/04/2009 09:23

Well I am getting ready to loathe any winner

GentleOtter · 18/04/2009 09:29

My Ds1 has nominated me for BadMum of the year. Something to do with my being a beaatch apparently.

georgimama · 18/04/2009 09:38

What a stupid idea. Justine et all, what were you thinking?

DesperateHousewifeToo · 18/04/2009 10:28

I don't think it is a problem that the prize is aimed at 'mums' (although should perhaps have been done near to Mother's Day). Lots of the prizes offered are for those who are pregnant/have toddlers/babies which I don't.

I don't think it is fair to blame MN for the prize. It is just the hotel trying to promote itself (as with most of the prizes on MN) as a family friendly place. I bet loads of people have looked at the website, so it has worked.

Quite frankly, I should win as my children still have chocolate left over from easter which must make me a brilliant mum (as I have not eaten it....yet). (Also, I'd like to see how they cope with ds playing twinkle twinkle little star ad nauseum on their grand piano and dd picking all their flowers to give to me)

Callipygia · 18/04/2009 13:22

" but also captures some of the spirit and wit of MN"

Justine you are clutching at straws.
That MN disappeared quite some time ago.
You have made this sound so trite.
You'll end up giving the prize to someone who cracks a joke now and again and gives good copy (for that is the crux of it, shurely?) and the real people who really truly deserve a bit of recognition will be left behind.
That is the spirit of MN these days.

WittyKitty · 18/04/2009 13:28

I wonder what the men think about this?

Can a man be Mumsnet MUM of the year?

MamazonFirstladyofFilth · 18/04/2009 13:42

does the hotel allow bumsex??

otherwise im out

LoneStranger · 18/04/2009 13:44

AS I mentioned earlier, what about posters who are not/ no longer mums, yet are very much and equal and valuable part of Mumsnet?

Pls MNHQ, can you not (in the spirit of wit, absurdity and can remember the other one Justine said) at least change it to Mumsnet BUM of the year? Now, THAT, could be a laugh and would not offend individuals or their sensibilities or pitch poster's parenting styles and experiences against each other?

I am sure posters have some funny 'bum' stories to tell! (then grimaces as I realise this may present YET ANOTHER opportunity for talk about bumsex).

Come to think of it, we've already had a few on here, and Lisa123 for one could submit a picture entitled "Me and My Broom".... if she felt so inclined!

DesperateHousewifeToo · 18/04/2009 13:55

Oh, turn the other cheek, Lonestranger

LoneStranger · 18/04/2009 14:01

Cross-post with Mamazon . DHWT, well done. Y'see MNHQ, THIS is the wit and spirit you are trying to capture, surely?
