Oh I am glad this is here. I was going to put a thread on. It is driving me NUTS!

Lilyloo · 07/03/2009 22:07

I have been moaning all week about an annoying singing / dancing ad with kids on.
Only just watched it through to see it is the cbeebies one.
Every time i scroll it starts that song

Please get rid!!!

It drives me mad!!!

WilfSell · 08/03/2009 23:17

I do love those trails though, even if random versions kicking in when not requested are a bit much. The kids are so funny doing their Sid and Andy impressions.

(cross posted to the pedants...)

I complained to the BBC about the stray apostrophes in that advert, and this is the reply that I got.

I cannot believe that this was Mumsnet's own copy? It was an advert, surely????? Justine???

Dear Annner,

Thanks for your e-mail regarding CBeebies.

I understand that you saw a mistake in an ad for CBeebeis on an external website, www.mumsnet.com.

Whilst I was unable to locate the ad on the website it appears that this is something which mumsnet.com have put on themselves to describe CBeebies to people who visit their site.

The BBC aren't responsible for the content found on any external sites of this nature.

Thanks once again for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

You are currently advertsing CBeebies channel and website on www.mumsnet.com.

I love CBeebies. However, I am horrified by the huge grammatical mistake in the middle of your advert, which reads: Lighting up your little learners - See what other mum's and dad's have to say"

It's rather worrying, to say the least, that an educational part of the BBC cannot get simple grammar correct in published text. While not wanting to sound like a member of the green ink brigade, I would expect texts to be proofread for accuracy before publication, and particularly when the text concerned is advertising your credentials as an organisation supporting a child's education.

Yours faithfully, Annner

Hi Anner
I've just watched the CBeebies ad (which should be gone (SOON btw) and couldn't find the stray apostrophes of which you speak.

But you are right, MNHQ had nothing to do with this and we would never make such a grammatical faux- pas.

tiktok · 09/03/2009 14:03

No stray apostrophes at all - I have read it very carefully!

Just a lot of unwanted and sudden noise

Annner · 09/03/2009 17:35

The earlier version of it was as listed in my email to the Beeb: "Mum's and Dad's" was there in all its glory. Ouch.

It was, however, lifted and corrected pretty sharpish (later the same afternoon)

But of course, none of us know the difference between adverts and editorial...

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 09/03/2009 20:38

Please please for my sanity, when is it going as I've just rolled over the ad for the hundreth time ( it really must be!!)

AND IT STILL SINGS TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!

It's over a week now I've been in this hell, and to top it all cbeebies is banned from the Doris house this week, in an attempt to improve the dd's behaviour ( tactic working incidentally).

And breathe.....

HelenMumsnet · 10/03/2009 15:50

Hello.

You'll all be pleased to know that we've finally got a non-singing CBeebies ad (well, it does sing but only when you actually click on it).

Hurrah. And sorry for the long wait.

pavlovthecat · 10/03/2009 16:26

YEY! I was starting to think I would have to flounce. Phewie!

tiktok · 10/03/2009 17:37

Thanks

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 10/03/2009 20:34

And peace reigns

ps thank you, thank you, thank you!

nickytwotimes · 10/03/2009 20:36

Thank goodness.
DH nearly had an accident when I scrolled over it while he was sat reading a horror novel.

ArrietyClock · 10/03/2009 20:53

Noooo! Mine still sings! How the heck do I get rid of it????? Dd leaps to her feet whenever it comes on and demands to 'see' and then wants it to do it again. It can even distract her from the real CBeebies.... (ad. shoots self in foot).
