MNHQ - while we are talking about the new set up, can I ask

At the top of the page, under the Mumsnet logo are a series of links, saying Conception, Pregnancy, Babies etc etc. Can I ask why there is nothing there for those of us who have older children?

oh yeah, never noticed that!

Surely "teenagers" should be there.

Apart from anything else, a newbie looking at the site would think it was a baby forum!

Saltire · 30/01/2009 08:07

Well that's my thoughts exactly sqounk. What about those of us, like me with children who aren't babies or toddlers, and aren't teenagers?
Or those with teenagers?

you are totally right saltire.

It needs to be made just a little bit more clear that this is for parents of all ages, with children of all ages.

Saltire · 30/01/2009 08:16

Recently though, I have felt that the site is gearing more towards those with babies and toddlers? Maybe its just me

glitterfairy · 30/01/2009 08:19

I dont mind it. The top line is lovely and clear but it is really difficult to read the threads. They seem all squished up.

Saltire · 30/01/2009 08:23

Yes, but we are talking about the fact that there seems to be no mention of the fact that MN is not just a site for parents of babies and toddlers. There are links to conception advice, baby advice and toddler advice, but nothing for parents of 5-12 year olds or teenagers

OP posts:
LisaLessLumpy · 30/01/2009 08:24

All squished up here for me too. I am on Firefox and it is very hard to read. I am usually all for change, when it is for the better, but I'm sorry, this is NOT for the better

Saltire · 30/01/2009 08:36

Sorry, is no one reading my OP. I am not tallking about the site is set up as a wholenow. I'm talking about the apparent lack of info for parents of older children!

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 08:37

I understand what you mean Saltire. It does rather make it look its only for parents of little children as those links are so bold.........

LisaLessLumpy · 30/01/2009 08:41

Ahhh, when I first logged on it was all horrible, everthing all squished up, especially on the classic setting. I have just changed to 'new' mumsnet and it is instantly better. There are a few things I'm still not happy with, but I'm going to go have a cuppa, calm down and look again

LisaLessLumpy · 30/01/2009 08:42

Ooops sorry, posted this on the wrong topic

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2009 08:44

Now I have posted on some threads I was already on and they are not coming up in active convos?????
I have checked because this is really flummoxing me - but no I have posted on said thread

Saltire · 30/01/2009 08:59

FAQ you even have a link named after you!. Why is MNHQ not answering my question? I need to go to work now

OP posts:
FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 09:01

that's because I'm so important

Almeida · 30/01/2009 09:04

Have said the same thing Saltire - it's too big as it's not going to be used by everyone or even alot of the time.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 30/01/2009 09:06

ALSO - what happened to the little buttons where you could add or subtract the SN boards?

Almeida · 30/01/2009 09:12

The concep, preg baby etc bar needs to go on the mumsnet homepage when you click on the logo. Once off this page the bar shouldn't appear imho

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 09:13

"Why is MNHQ not answering my question?"

Because following the first 30 minutes of the change, they are now all drunk and cowering in a corner of Tech's shed.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 09:17

I second soupys thoughts........hya are indeed cowering away from the angry mob that was once known as the MNers!!!

OliviaMumsnet · 02/02/2009 19:34

Hello
Sorry that this hasn't been answered yet. Erm I've been on maternity leave so I actually don't know anything.
I'll bring it up at our next cakefest meeting.

sandcastles · 02/02/2009 20:06

From what I read on one of the other threads, other catorgories (sp) i.e teens etc will be added in due time.

llareggub · 02/02/2009 20:12

It's because you parents of older children are dead clever you see.

JustineMumsnet · 02/02/2009 20:23

I've already answered you on this somewhere haven't I Saltire? No? Oh well sorry must have pressed back instead of post...

We are having lots more content hopefully in the next few months - teens, travel, education, food, relationships to name but a few

We did these ones first for a few reasons:
a) we're doing books on preg, babies, toddlers so we could nick stuff it made sense for folk who might visit MN after seeing/reading the books.

b) people have a lot of questions when they're pregnant/ got young babies - if you analyse google search, there are many more searches for pelvic girdle pain than there are for nits.

c) because we think if we get our mitts into folk early on then they'll never leave

But we'll be rolling out much more for parents of older children soon - as soon as soon can be - ie as soon as that gerry pulls her finger out!
