If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to.

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

who invented moldies?

several mumsnetters I think

pooka · 29/12/2008 13:47

But they only have themselves to blame - having hidden the thread it's like they uninvited themselves from the party.

I feel no guilt.

LucyJones · 29/12/2008 13:47

I wish the Moldies would answer these questions, I feel under qualified

daftpunk · 29/12/2008 13:47

aitch....everyones sanity was fine untill this all came out......you might like to have a word with some of your mates on the moldies site and ask them to stop coming on here and being tits of the highest order....then things might calm down.

Quattrocento · 29/12/2008 13:50

Aitch, you are getting too worked up. No-one has asked any Mouldies to go home. There have been one or two posts where a Mouldie has been quite aggressive (witness below) and been told to go back to Mouldies. Comments like that have only ever been retaliatory.

I think MN (both MN Towers and MNers in general) have been great and kind and forgiving really for NOT telling the Moldies to get lost. I think that's the spirit of MN.

I'd personally like it if you carried on posting on MN and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

MumofBaby · 29/12/2008 13:50

I need to know who the Moldies are so that I can gain some perspective. So far there's Aitch. Is Scottishmummy one? Expat? I hope there's no one from my old antenatal thread.

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 13:52

What perspective do you want to gain, MoB?

Aitch · 29/12/2008 13:54

aye, onebat, it was most odd. haven't seen you as that type of poster, but i do think that a lot of people (and tbh from my reading of it, mostly aggrieved MNers) have lost perspective. i know that things went on yesterday, but in terms of the sustainedness (if that's even a word) then there have been literally thousands against moldies.

(to whoever asked, by the way, MNHQ have no problem with Moldies, can completely understand why it was set up and graciously refused an invitation to join.)

so, anyway, what is it that you actually want to happen at this stage?

that moldies will shut?
cos that isn't going to happen, i don't think. half of the moldies seem to have de-regged in sadness.

that it will open its doors?
do you really think that's likely now?

so i don't understand what is being gained by keeping this embarrassing fishwifery going.

NorthernLurker · 29/12/2008 13:55

mumofbaby - I don't think naming names is helpful anymore actually.

Tortington · 29/12/2008 13:56

aitch i see what you are saying, but i don't think that two wrongs ake a right. I take on board your argument, that you can post where you want. I would also like to add, that you seem to be lone sane(if moldy) voice.

it is an emotive subject and BBBEE i would be happy to reply to any posts you have - becuase youare right, this is the place to do it.

Those who are fed up of the discussion can hide it and leave those who want to post questions.

i have seen lots and lots of posts over the few days with "what is a moldy" "what are you all talking about?" type questions, being ignored.

I have ignored some of them too for fear of interrupting cocktails and airing cupboards and being accused of re-igniting something.

However i do think that this is ONE thread where those that want to talk about it can.

It also allows the moldies to comment on posts - in one thread. Allowing us to clearly see two sides.

The by-product of other threads being started is that they get deleted, and this is unfortunate as then any amount of mudslinging can ensue, and its v. hard to defend against someone who said for instance - that you called them names or were unpleasant - if you weren't

SO, if it is kept in one place, a place where we can talk about it without feeling like people are bored - as bored you maybe, but you can hide the thread.

so BBBE, what did you want to post about?

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 29/12/2008 13:56

oh right.....life is to short....but I suppose it could be upsetting to some...

Aitch · 29/12/2008 13:57

quattro, there have, i'm sure i've seen a few 'piss off back to moldies, then' etc. and i'm not getting worked up, in fact i'm bfing dd2 so if anything i'm getting let-down.

tbh i'm really sad about this, MN is a great place, i don't know what i'd have done withouth the support i got when dd2 came early. i was so frightened, pals phoning me to tell me what everyone was saying really, really helped. this is like being in the middle of a civil war.

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 14:00

I think this is the right place to talk about it.

If nothing else, it'll mean the press can cherry-pick quotes and hopefully attribute the right MNer if it's all on one thread!

NorthernLurker · 29/12/2008 14:00

Oooh Aitch - if reading about Christmas gluttony, domestic practices and internecine war is helping you feed dd2 then I'll step up a gear shall I?

Ok then which of you (insert insult of choice) has stolen my (insert expletive of choice) IRONING BOARD!

holidaywonk · 29/12/2008 14:01

Fuck me, I got deleted again!

I'd like to make it VERY clear that I did NOT say what everyone else was deleted for saying. I think I've been deleted because it would make clear the content of subsequent deleted posts.

Anyways, like OBM I feel bad this morning for my part in what went on last night - it crossed several lines and it wasn't pretty. Apologies.

Quattrocento · 29/12/2008 14:01

of breastfeeding. Honestly it would be better if Moldies didn't come back on here to stir things up though. Speaking as one who (I think and hope and pray) has never told a Moldie to go home.

You have to promise to stay and cause more breastfeeding envy, now.

Tortington · 29/12/2008 14:02

INdeed Hunker, you are right.

I hope the press can get the quotes right in future.

BBBee · 29/12/2008 14:02

just saw jeremy paxman in the co-op and he says newsnight are running it as the main story tonight.

he looked quite stressed about it (and his eyes were red like he had been crying)

MumofBaby · 29/12/2008 14:02

Well if we're not naming names, and we don't know who they are, why do we care? This is just stupid. People are rowing over sod all, purely because they fancy a row. People (we don't know who) have started their own version of MN... and we're not invited. OH bloody no. What a shame.

Honestly.

There are more important things going on.

I CANNOT believe it made the papers. Sad.

Time to hide this thread I think.

Tortington · 29/12/2008 14:04

good for you MOB, you are doing exactly the right thing entirely considering it doesn't interest you.

be well
xx

pooka · 29/12/2008 14:05

PMSL BBBee.

catinthehat1 · 29/12/2008 14:05

I think that was because he had read about Morningpaper's bowel movements in another Moldies thread. I must admit I cried too

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 14:06

Some appear to view any posting by Moldies as stirring though, or concerted and planned "attacks" - it's an odd feeling, really.

BBBee · 29/12/2008 14:06

this thread just moves too fast and there were times when i wanted to ask stuff but it had calmed down and i didn't want to ignite it.

i think it would be helpful to have a thread that explains it so people can get up to speed

i think it would be good to discuss the media coverage

i think threads develop their own tone - some are upset, some are bored, some are joky - throwing them all together results in hurt sometimes.

i think that bunching it all together doesn't work.

llareggub · 29/12/2008 14:07

Oh I wish I could stop reading this thread.

All those jobs I've ignored

And those children I've scorned

Oh I wish I could stop reading this thread.
