It is extremley divisive and I am calling for it to be scrapped. All those in favour say AYE.

OP posts:
TheBlonde · 06/11/2008 10:46

AYE

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/11/2008 10:46

I am a one child family and have decided against looking at it

nickytwotimes · 06/11/2008 10:47

AYE

Before it came along, I never knew there was such friction between parents of 1 versus parents of 2 plus.

TheGoat · 06/11/2008 10:47

done to death

Aitch · 06/11/2008 10:56

aye.

although i do think that parents who know for certain that they'll only have one child and may want more must experience considerable sadness and frustration (esp if everyone keeps asking them when they're going to have a bro or sis) i just don't see why there has to be a separate board for it. MN is aaaaall about the sadness and frustration.

and all that 'people with more than one kid live in shitholes' stuff drives me nuts.

Tortington · 06/11/2008 10:57

AYE

DrNortherner · 06/11/2008 10:59

Oh yes, I have an only myself and hate it when people comment on this and criticise it.

Equally, I hate the fact that this topic has degenerated into mud slinging against families of more than 1 kid. It's ridiculous.

I am this close to flouncing and leaving MN for good.

AYE from me too. I've occasionally wandered in out of curiosity and been a bit shocked at the mutual animosity.

theSuburbanDryad · 06/11/2008 11:03

Don't leave DrN! You managed to stop me from crying just now!

And also, AYE.

PuzzleRocks · 06/11/2008 11:04

I'm tempted to say aye but I think it's really one poster who has caused most of the ill feeling and seems a bit unfair on some of the other posters.

mehgalegs · 06/11/2008 11:04

AYE - I had a little bit of a lurk yesterday and was astonished at some of the attitudes.

Pawslikepaddington · 06/11/2008 11:05

aye

Fillyjonk · 06/11/2008 11:06

oh god aye

use the bandwidth for families with multiple under 3s.

but with the proviso that I am wondering of there might be call for a board for people coming to terms with not having the number of kids they wanted (only better worded)

MeggyMoggy · 06/11/2008 11:23

AYE

"Lets celebrate one child families"
There's nothing wrong with bigger families you know!!

Cicatrice · 06/11/2008 11:27

I like the one child topic. And there are some people on here could disagree about anything.

MascaraOHara · 06/11/2008 11:31

I started a thread similiar to this yesterday - got a different response entirely

zippitippitoes · 06/11/2008 11:32

i think broader topics are better than narrower ones

you get a wider range of posts and when there are oddball posters they get diluted

there are lots oof sections on mn that i see the thread and go to post and then see what section its in and think oh well ill leave it

i don't get this one child is a problem business ....it has never occurred to me to have any view on people with one child

in fact it has just occurred to me that my granson is an only child and i hadnt really thought about that at all until this moment

CharCharGabor · 06/11/2008 11:42

AYE

avaTsar · 06/11/2008 11:44

Aye.

Aitch · 06/11/2008 11:45

actually, having looked again... i think there's one super-naff poster on a mission there, probably spoiling it for other posters. she's 'celebrating' onlies by slagging off bigger families and then taking great offence when someone points this out.

squeaver · 06/11/2008 11:52

Aitch - I think that is what's happening.

I wanted the topic, I asked MN directly for it.

I genuinely thought there were things (not necessarily problems, not necessarily issues) that people with the same starting point and the same common ground could discuss.

I can't believe it's turned into a mud-slinging battleground - and that's on both sides.

I really, really wish I'd never bothered.

madbadanddangeroustoknow · 06/11/2008 11:53

No, but too tired of it all to argue the toss.

expatinscotland · 06/11/2008 11:54

aye

CatIsSleepy · 06/11/2008 11:55

aaaah we're all just families ain't we?
[group hug emoticon]

seriously all these separate topics do seem a bit unnecessary...

so an AYE from me

Aitch · 06/11/2008 11:57

well, madbad and squeaver, you'll have to sort her out cos she's bad news.

dh, fwiw, is an only and loved it. although i'm one of four, so he's nabbed my bro and sisters now.
