It's like a free for all.

Anyone who posts there is considered fair game.

If you post in ibu and get jumped on then it is considered your own fault for posting in ibu.

I think it's horrible.

OP posts:
daftpunk · 11/09/2008 12:37

tbh..i suspect that most posters who start a thread on aibu know exactly what they're letting themselves in for.

i think it's great, and should defo stay.

CatIsSleepy · 11/09/2008 12:42

i know zippi...that's why it all tends to get a bit out of hand...
mind you if people actually read the whole thread....

I like the swingometer idea

JuneBugJen · 11/09/2008 12:52

Agree, anyone who finally gets beaten into submission concedes that they ABU should be flagged up in red so people dont keep wading in with nasty comments.

Sometimes it is like the scene with Aslan vs the witche's minions!

I think AIBU should not allow responses. Thus:

'AIBU to think that my MIL is a cow because blah etc....'

People can read, want to respond, can't, steam starts to come out of their ears, they go and kick the cat and then forget about it.

OP has a chance to let off steam, imagine that everyone supports her, feel better and then forget about it.

Job done. No-one gets hurt.

Now wouldn't that be better?

Or.. or. It could be a poll. OP gets posted. People can respond by ticking boxes as follows:

'A. Awww sweetie/hon yanbu. She's an evil bitch from hell. Have some chocolate'
'b. FFS. Get a grip. My MIL set fire to my house and I'm still civil to her'
'c. Sod off. Worse things happen at sea.'

summerdressesandlacyboots · 11/09/2008 13:05

But if there was no AIBU thread we wouldn't have got such gems as an OP being accused of "withholding information" on one thread.

I think they are great - but you have to be up for being told Yes you are, took me a while to accept that I could possible be, but sems I have been on a couple. Shocking

BlingLovin · 11/09/2008 13:05

In the spirit of that weird desire to slow down at a crash site on the highway... I find it quite amusing when the OP concedes she's being U and then still gets slammed. It just shows how few people actually bother to read what's on there. There's something weirdly addictive about those threads. Or when someone makes a point and the OP agrees and then then no one pays any attention - that cracks me up.

bundle · 11/09/2008 13:07

I'd have an f-key with "have you ever thought about it from their point of view "

zippitippitoes · 11/09/2008 13:07

yes summer

people either withold info so that you will agree with them

or they disclose stuff to stop you disagreeing with them

expatinscotland · 11/09/2008 13:08

aye

cocolepew · 11/09/2008 13:10

There's one now with only a few posts on it, but the 'why should you care/be bothered by it?' has already started.

pagwatch · 11/09/2008 13:13

I agreed the thread should change colour or blow up or something if the op conceeds they are totally unreasonable.
But I have to admit to find it vaguely funny - seeingthe poor op return again and again to say " I KNOW I WAS UNREASONABLE _- NOW WILL YOU ALL STOP THE MADNESS"" ...
always followed almost imediately by
'haven't read the whole thread but YA def BU and should imediately have your eyes poked out with burning sticks'

fab

pagwatch · 11/09/2008 13:14

look at coco trying to round up a mob

cocolepew · 11/09/2008 13:15

I already posted on it

GotNoDyson · 11/09/2008 13:21

LOL @ coddy

I think I may hide the AIBU topic. In the same way you ignore a sub-section of society that you are ashamed of.

"That's not me. It doesnt represent me or my opinions. I don't wish to be associated with such lest it taint me or my reputation".

That sort of thing.

wannaBe · 11/09/2008 13:22

on another site I used to visit they had a topic called "the rant board" where people could go to vent. We could have one of those, and the genuine ibu's could stay in the ibu topic.

Thing is, I've seen far more nastyness on ibu than on other boards. peppermintpatty was really ripped apart the other night, to the extent she was accused of child abuce and told to seak professional help, and the poster who was talking about mothers withholding access was also layed into in quite an unpleasant manner by some.

Maybe the posts could be limited to 100 messages rather than the traditional 1000 so as to keep the bashings to a minimum? After all if something has been said once it doesn't need to be repeated 999 times does it? and the threads that got really nasty would soon disappear because they would be much shorter.

OP posts:
cocolepew · 11/09/2008 13:23

Another site! There's more than this one?

GotNoDyson · 11/09/2008 13:28

Or, perhaps we could just exclude posters who hold such aggressive or excessive opinions.......

summerdressesandlacyboots · 11/09/2008 13:32

Good point wannabe - limiting the postings a bit more. Have sometimes seen someone post an opinion, then to be yelled at "HAVE YOU READ THE THREAD?" when it's about post 336. Er no, most dont have time to wade through more than about 30 or so posts, but if the convo is still going on they are entitled to still make a point.

Nagapie · 11/09/2008 13:33

But we would have never had the 'water-gun to a birthday party' posting...

That should go in to the classics....

cocolepew · 11/09/2008 13:45

People should only be allowed 1 post each, so when someone disagrees with them they can't answer back

maidamess · 11/09/2008 13:48

Get rid.
