Have MNHQ reported the poster who shared addresses to the police?

I understand that there was recently a poster in FWR who posted the addresses of some women involved with For Women Scotland. Incorrect addresses apparently, but still.

I'm sure you have but I just want to check, MNHQ have you reported this poster to the police?

How had they worked them out? Nasty thing to do.

I reported it to FWS as well as MNHQ.

FWS have reported it to police - it's also on multiple platforms.

I'm not entirely sure.

I wondered if it was maybe something to do with the recent hack of the Free Speech Union's donation list?

That's good that it's been reported by FWS, I just assume that any further information about this that the police can get their hands on will help, so I'm hoping MNHQ have also reported so they can hand over any information they have too.

MNHQ aren't the victims, so there's nothing for them to report tbh.

I'm sure the police will provide the appropriate legal paperwork for MN to be able to hand over all the usual stuff (usernames, emails, posting history, IP addresses etc).

Hi all.

We’re aware of this and have taken action on the poster and removed their posts.

To be clear, we take the sharing of personal information extremely seriously, regardless of where that information first appeared. It’s not acceptable to post or speculate about people’s addresses or other identifying details here.

It's our understanding that a police report may already have been made elsewhere. If the police or affected parties need to contact us through the appropriate channels, we’ll deal with that in the proper way.

If you see anything else concerning, please report it to us.

Wait, MNHQ saw it, removed the posts, and took no action in reporting it to the police?!

MNHQ aren't the victims so police wouldn't be interested in hearing from them, no.

I'm honestly very surprised that you haven't reported it yourself!

I don't think that it's enough to just remove the posts and ban the poster when they are committing an actual crime and using your website to do so.

Surprised and quite disappointed in all honesty.

MN may not have been the victim, but if I saw a crime being committed the police would be interested even if I wasn't the victim.

Like I said earlier, I think MNHQ should contact the police and give them any information they have. Then it's up to the police to decide what to do with that information.

Hello @WomenAreNotEmotionalSupportAnimals We understand why people are concerned.

In cases like this, the affected parties are usually best placed to make a report to police because they can provide the necessary context about what has happened, any wider history, the impact on them and so forth. They can also give police the most complete account of events. Those affected can of course ask the investigating officer to get in touch with us.

That doesn’t mean we ignore it or don't take it seriously. We’ve removed the posts, taken action on the account, and we can and do assist investigations where we’re able to, when contacted through the appropriate channels.
