Announcement re deletion of Wig and Robe/Judge Flounce threads

Dear mumsnetters,

We are now able to shed a bit more light as to what actually occurred re the Wig and Robe/Judge Flounce episode. We are pretty sure (having received a confession of as much) that, as some of you suspected, W&R/JF was a non-lawyer masquerading as a QC. Given this knowledge we have deleted the relevant postings and banned the user from the site.

If nothing else the whole business is a salutary reminder that you can never be completely sure that folks are who they say they are and neither should you necessarily completely trust the advice, especially "professional" advice, posted on mumsnet.

As a result of some concerns raised by you we are looking into making parts of the site, the swaps and weight loss clubs for example, something that operates via mumsnet HQ so that people's addresses are not being circulated. If anyone has any other suggestions then please [email protected] or post them here and we promise to consider them.

We?d also remind folks that when organising meet ups you should take the same precautions you would when meeting anyone from the net - make sure you meet in a public place and that others know where you are going.

Having said all that, it would be a shame if this relatively rare occurrence of someone pretending to be someone they are not changed the warm, supportive, welcoming and caring atmosphere on mumsnet - and we're confident that you won't let it!

Thanks for all the supportive and helpful emails we've received from so many of you.

Carrie, Rachel and Justine

JJ what, like, 'Hi there, can I give you some MONEY for THE cake sale? Did you see prince Harry's outfit? He should be SHOT shouldn't he, along with the rest of the royals'... is that the kind of thing?

Moomin · 13/01/2005 20:40

no, www you only get full points for the right order, e.g. at the sports day ' i hope THE weather holds out. How much MONEY has the cake stall made today? Oh, good SHOT darling!'

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 13/01/2005 20:42

haha moomin

Spacecadet · 13/01/2005 20:43

seriously though, he might have had a very unpleasant agenda, I cant think of any other reason why a man would pose on mn as a women qc who had all these awful personal problems apart from the fact he was getting a real kick out of it( I dont want to think about what sort of kick, whatever floats your boat I guess)

Same sentence, ideally. "I need to get the money out for a shot of coffee." There would need to be a stock reply then... maybe "I spilled grapes on my tablecloth this morning, how annoying!". Then the first person to say "A Wig and Robe and a hee hi ho" gets to ask the other her mn nickname.

I really think it's time I switch from tea to wine tonight...

lavenderr · 13/01/2005 20:45

have just checked this out by ringing directory enquiries and there is no S.Schindler in Llanraff or Cardiff, the nearest is an S.Schindler who is ex-directory and they live 8 miles away in Newport...something doesn't add up...did they say they lived in llandaff btw?////

KateandtheGirls · 13/01/2005 20:46

JJ I'm almost sad that there are no mumsnetters (I don't think) in my city for me to try this game out on!

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 13/01/2005 20:47

ha ha JJ!

JanH · 13/01/2005 20:51

Moomin, you have done this before, haven't you?

Anybody know where Tonypandy is in relation to Newport for lavenderr (now she hasn't flounced after all)?

lavenderr · 13/01/2005 20:53

pardon?

KateandtheGirls · 13/01/2005 20:53

(Jan, I thudded for you on a different thread.)

Moomin · 13/01/2005 20:54

so thats' settled then. in order to rid ourselves of the nasty side of what went on, we must swear to always refer to w&r/JF as 'HE' and make him a object of ridicule he deserves.

just had a vision of his own bbc series (like judge deed) except it is called 'Judge Flounce - laydeeeee's QC'; back view of W&R then he spins round to face the camera with his granite chin in profile, steely eyes and qc's qig atop his laydeeee's wig.

its a winner. i'd deffo pay my licence fee just for this.

Moomin · 13/01/2005 20:54

or even 'wig' !

And you, JJ!

milge · 13/01/2005 20:56

I think s/he put that they lived in llandaff, as it is an area where there are about 10+ cardiff barristers living, plus alady QC( whom i am quite sure S/he was passing herself off as before pph got on the case) used to live there until very recently... there are no S schindlers in the phone book for Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan - looked weeks ages ago..
Glad s/he has been proved a fake, quite a sad episode for MN

JanH · 13/01/2005 20:56

Thanks, Kate!!

I feel very and at WnR or JF

because I was taken in about Ross and I shared the story of DS and christmas with them.

I feel betrayed

I think anyone who can do that is really mean and horrible

I think that WnR was a woman on neighbours thread unless husband had a thing for LOU CARPENTER but that was prob lies too

AND IF YOU ARE READING THIS NOW WnR OR JF OR WHOEVER YOU WANT TO BE TODAY THEN HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY BUT I THINK YOU ARE A MISERABLE COWARD.

AND I HOPE YOU NEVER POST HERE AGAIN

My favorite quote has to be pph's

By princessinapeartree on Wednesday, 5 January, 2005 9:51:20 PM

Well I don't know who is sending judgeflounce emails, but if she is a QC I'm Mother Teresa (dec'd), if she is a qualified barrister I'm Princess Anne, and if she has a law degree then I'm prepared to believe that but she should have paid more attention in lectures because she gets deeply confused about rather basic legal concepts. Including the contents of the Bar Code of Practice.

But hey, I'm just an "office girl" (albeit one with more legal knowledge in the fingernail of her left hand than in JF's brain) so what difference does it make what I think?!

I think that this summed up things rather nicely!

sparklymieow · 13/01/2005 21:14

Llandaff in Cardiff was where the return address was on the parcel, but it was C/O address.

JanH · 13/01/2005 21:17

oh really, mieow? Can you tell if it's a house or could it be a business? (Prob silly question - can you name the street and then Cardiff natives would know if it's residential or not?)

sparklymieow · 13/01/2005 21:19

No, I threw the paper away, but it was the same as the address that the SS site was registered to

JanH · 13/01/2005 21:20

But that isn't in Llandaff! Did it say Tonypandy as well?
