Dear mumsnetters,

We are now able to shed a bit more light as to what actually occurred re the Wig and Robe/Judge Flounce episode. We are pretty sure (having received a confession of as much) that, as some of you suspected, W&R/JF was a non-lawyer masquerading as a QC. Given this knowledge we have deleted the relevant postings and banned the user from the site.

If nothing else the whole business is a salutary reminder that you can never be completely sure that folks are who they say they are and neither should you necessarily completely trust the advice, especially "professional" advice, posted on mumsnet.

As a result of some concerns raised by you we are looking into making parts of the site, the swaps and weight loss clubs for example, something that operates via mumsnet HQ so that people's addresses are not being circulated. If anyone has any other suggestions then please [email protected] or post them here and we promise to consider them.

We?d also remind folks that when organising meet ups you should take the same precautions you would when meeting anyone from the net - make sure you meet in a public place and that others know where you are going.

Having said all that, it would be a shame if this relatively rare occurrence of someone pretending to be someone they are not changed the warm, supportive, welcoming and caring atmosphere on mumsnet - and we're confident that you won't let it!

Thanks for all the supportive and helpful emails we've received from so many of you.

Carrie, Rachel and Justine

They say you learn something new everyday - certainly learned something this evening.

Amanda3266, you can amaze people with your new found knowledge tomorrow. See how many times you can slip it into a conversation

God, I cant beleive I missed all this, I saw a few of jf's posts on relationships and thought they seemed a tad odd, looked like quotes from out of date text books, I have been in constant consultation with my solititor over my ex dp( regarding my dd) for 13 years and she charges me even for a phone call, I did find it hard to beleive that a qc would post free advice( or would have the time too).I didnt see the posts on her son, but im horrified that anyone could lie about something like that, my son was stillborn 14 years ago and I personally find it sick that anyone could make up stuff like that, so is the person actually a bloke??? ( sorry im behind)

JJ · 13/01/2005 20:20

It could be a new game. You have to work "the" and "money" and "shot" into a sentence naturally. If the person you're talking with calls you on it, you have to tell them your mn nickname. (This is in RL and at the school gates or park or wherever you hang out with other mothers and chit chat)

lavenderr · 13/01/2005 20:25

said I wouldn't post on her again but just wanted to say am totally shocked about this, can't understand why someone would pretend to be someone they're not...btw are the photos this person anyone know? (feel strange about who's on this site now...be careful girls who you open up to in uture..............................

Kaz33 · 13/01/2005 20:25

Well I've watched with fascination as the whole saga unravels. Hadn't seen any of WF's posts till right at the end as havn't been on the site much recently - but suprised when JF offered to show me round Cardiff . Thought that was beyond the call of mumsnet duty. But the question arises is Llanduff a good place to live or is that another one of JF's fantasies.

Well, not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but I'm hooked again. Mumsnet has ensnared me again and I'm afraid JF is to blame.

Spacecadet · 13/01/2005 20:27

Ewww, if it was a bloke what was his agenda may I ask? He was getting some sort of kick out of it.

KateandtheGirls · 13/01/2005 20:28

Me and doggiewalker both....

All the effort that he has put into this, WHY ? Gosh it makes my life interesting in comparison.

Moomin · 13/01/2005 20:33

perhaps he's completely deranged and would turn up for a meetup in a wig, like emily howard or the housewives off the bounty adverts... complete with barrister's wig on top and big black cloak. and then act like butter wouldn't melt.

lavenderr · 13/01/2005 20:33

if anyone lives Cardiff way perhaps they could look in the phone book for a Schindler of this village/town (maybe they exist but they are just so not a lawyer)....if that's the case though where the hell did they get all that advise from...because as it happens W&R predicted exactly what would happen re: ex-boss (do you think they studies law at some point in their career....put it this way I couldn't give this kind of advice to someone ever as know nothing about law sts).

Spacecadet · 13/01/2005 20:34

Theres a nice thought moomin! then he would flounce about saying "im a layyydeeeee!!!"
