Shit, blood, injuries, genitals

Please, for the sake of all of our eyes, can we have an outright ban on people posting photos of shit, period blood clots, injuries and most of all, photos of their skanky genitals?

No-one, apart from the OP’s doctor, needs to see this stuff and it’s frankly revolting. MN is not a fucking hospital, people should go to their doctor or A&E. It’s also a magnet for perverts.

Indeed. It’s all very well to say that people post intimate photos all the time on the internet, but I’m not talking about the rest of the internet, I’m talking about Mumsnet.

At the very least, if @mnhq really think it’s appropriate to allow posters to post photos of genitals (their own or other people’s, who knows!) then they should at least move them out of AIBU and Chat into the General Health topic and apply a blur filter so if someone accidentally clicks on the thread, they’re not immediately faced with a stranger’s arsehole.

Hello,

This is standard practice when these threads are flagged and the user is genuine, so we'll continue doing this going forward. If you think there's something we missed, please let us know and we'll go back and take another look.

@LilyMumsnet as I have reported twice separately and also mentioned in this thread - there is threads thought that really don't seem genuine where there is repeatedly over graphic pictures being posted that don't make sense. I have yet to receive any acknowledgement or action on any of the reports I have made on this?!

BeckyAMumsnet · 09/12/2023 15:20

@slipperypenguin we can see you reported an image on 29/11 at 9:43 pm and we responded at 9:55 pm. You may wish to check your junk folder in case our response has gone in there. If you've reported anything since then we're afraid we didn't receive it.

I think people should be able to post images that are sensitive and seek advice.

When you add an image through the web browser, there is a small box that comes up where you can tick to say it’s a sensitive image. It isn’t massive though and there’s no guidance- could the text label be extended to say “if your image contains xyz, you must tick this before posting” and explain what filter will be applied?

I don’t have the app so I don’t know the equivalent on there.

I also sent a picture to my GP recently and there was a warning saying to not include a picture of an anus, breasts or any genitals. I really don’t understand why uploading these sorts of pictures are allowed on here, it’s weird.

For those saying ‘just don’t click on the thread,’ it’s not always that simple. I find that a lot of people don’t actually make it clear from the title what they’re talking about. Someone can start a thread on AIBU with the title, ‘AIBU to not know what this is’ and you don’t know what the heck you’ll see. It could be a mum posting about pills found in their teenagers bedroom or a mum posting their arsehole. It’s not always clear that you’ll click on a thread and straight away, someone’s there spreading their vaj lips. It’s a lot

Its weird is completely right! And also, how can Mumsnetters diagnose or advise (if the intention is honestly genuine - which I doubt in all cases). Go to the GP if you're worried!!
