Rather than deleting troll threads .. could we move them to a 'Troll section'

and change the colour of them (say to red) so that people can actually see quite how perniciously nasty or weird some of the trolls can be and why other people get so up in arms about the potential of them

OP posts:
Beetroot · 26/02/2008 21:53

buggger meant MI!!!

motherinferior · 26/02/2008 21:53

Oh yes, I was doodling around saying 'ooh I wonder when I'll go into labour' and then pop, they burst.

I still want to know the Truth About Judge Flounce. Nasty right-wing piece of work, s/he was, too.

expatinscotland · 26/02/2008 21:54

PPH referred to JudgeFlounce as 'Steve'.

TigerFeet · 26/02/2008 21:56

who was Vaunda? I recognise the other names

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2008 21:57

that's for sure, beetroot, the more trolls there are the less easy it is to be trusting. but i really can think of people on here and some of the shit that happens to them is UNBELIEVABLE but i do totally, completely believe it. and i think what if they'd wanted to start afresh with their posting names and no-one had believed them?
someone was posting to say should we have NEW beside people's names? i'm not sure that would work either. i don't suppose it happens often enough to really consider changing the open-heartedness of MN. i hope not, anyway.

pointydog · 26/02/2008 21:59

Could we not all just be given special x-ray specs to wear while mnetting which will enable us to see the trolls?

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2008 22:01
motherinferior · 26/02/2008 22:04

It's easy enough to work out if someone's new.

AitchTwoOh · 26/02/2008 22:06

yes, but what if they're new and genuine, that's the difficult bit, surely?

If it's carrying a club, it's a troll.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 26/02/2008 22:19

i feel awful but i read that thread out to dp and said its a bloody troll

i said who would be on mumsnet with a baby in scbu

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 26/02/2008 22:20

i did not post and feel strongly about domestic violence but i knew and did not want to be slated for a

SparklyGothKat · 26/02/2008 22:40

I am not sure about the twins 'troll' have looked at the photos and they look like some of Callum's. He looked big in some of his photos but tiny in others. She apparently had them at 34+3 weeks and yes they were good weights, but Callum was for 33 weeks.

But I am at MrsGG, I went through SCBU in sept. and have done for each of my kids. I can't believe she actually had the cheek to do this on a parenting board where there are other mothers have actually been through this

barbamama · 26/02/2008 23:04

Was mozhe definitely a troll then? That one still intrigues me. I saw the MrsGG threads yesterday before the trollness came out but I have to say I was suspicious immediately because if your husband had just beaten you and your unborn child up would you use the username MrsGG as in wife of GG presumably. Also the all in capitals seemed weird to me and atention seeking. Why the fascination with imaginary premature babies though for these trolls? I wishe they'd leave that topic alone.

hunkermunker · 26/02/2008 23:17

If I was going to troll for money on a parenting forum, I'd pick something that would cause outrage if anyone suggested I was lying about it. Premature birth and domestic violence on a parenting board frequented in the main by women - yep, they fit those criteria.

On balance, I do think it's worth outing trolls. I hope I did it in a way that caused minimal fuss - I didn't think through what I posted, but I didn't want to make a huge song and dance about it, just go "take a step back, ladies, something not quite right here".

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 26/02/2008 23:20

the thing is hnker - i had wondered and chatted o dp about it - reading bits out at the weekend

BUT without any evidence i would have been SLATED for questionning a thread such as that......slated

expatinscotland · 26/02/2008 23:21

Oh, and how could I forget the troll AnnainManchester/KemalsStilletto?

hunkermunker · 26/02/2008 23:22

That's exactly why I didn't post till I had photographic evidence. Which, if you google "premature baby 24 weeks" appears on the second page.

I don't recommend googling images of prem babies though

ladette · 26/02/2008 23:23

I don't understand why some posters get slated for suggesting people are trolling and others get supported. Naive newbie perhaps, but not sure why it's OK for some to suggest trolling and not others. Or have I missed something?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 26/02/2008 23:24

very clever Morse Hunker!

hunkermunker · 26/02/2008 23:24

Ladette, I'd have been slated if I'd posted without the photo as "proof", I assure you Hence not posting earlier!

ladette · 26/02/2008 23:30

I just recall a thread a while back where someone was asking how to test whether an OP was trolling or not and got completely lambasted. There have been a couple of more recent posts on trolling where the OP has had more support. Not sure what the difference is, whether there's a clique thing going on or whether I just don't understand the finer points of MN etiquette

hunkermunker · 26/02/2008 23:34

Oh, there are cliques. Don't believe anyone who tells you there aren't. They're either:

a) lying
b) not in a clique

I'm in a bespoke, made-to-measure clique. It's actually called a "clog" and it goes clip-clippety-clop on the stair. You can see it. Look - right there

ladette · 26/02/2008 23:39

just seems a bit unfair to me that some people get slated and others heralded for posting same things. But such is life I suppose. Going to bed now, will catch up tomorrow. Sweet dreams all.
