It’s pretty well documented that the way to get your baby the best gut start is via breastfeeding. This image makes it look like bottle feeding is the answer which is irresponsible.

Couldn't agree more. WTF?

Blimey.
Agreed.

Blueberrylemoncake · 21/06/2023 18:24

It could be expressed milk??

It could be expressed milk??

Well it could.
But what's the likelihood?

Blueberrylemoncake · 21/06/2023 20:02

There's no way to know. But the op said bottle feeding when I think they meant formula feeding.

Cormoran · 22/06/2023 04:54

BioGaia partners with Nestle, so of course, there would be a bottle...

MustYou · 22/06/2023 04:58

Appears to be marked as an ad, as well…

Cormoran · 22/06/2023 05:09

I think the right word is infomercial, a form of ad which is aimed at educating the customer . And that is fine, because it is what pays for MN to run, and I believe every MN user knows that. There is no false pretences that it is anything but an ad.
The "experts" are paid by brands, that is obvious.

WandaWonder · 22/06/2023 05:15

OMG people not engage their own brains and do what works best for them what is the world coming too?! we can't think for ourselves

I was referring to the designation at the top of the image itself.

I feel pretty good about people thinking for themselves. Not sure where the suggestion that they don’t is coming from.

This is a good article, by the way, https://amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/feb/07/underhand-formula-milk-ads-stop-millions-from-breastfeeding-experts-say

How interesting. There is no such warning on the desktop. Not even when you click on it, it just opens in a sponsored q&a.

I mean "ad" warning

MustYou · 22/06/2023 06:19

Oh interesting, maybe different platforms are showing it differently.

TookTheBook · 22/06/2023 06:22

Is this as even legal? That's a very young baby and bottles should not be promoted (as they imply formula, even if we are being generous and think it might be expressed milk, the advertising code is explicit)

I don't understand? What's wrong?

lalalalalalaleeee · 22/06/2023 06:23

Dense here, why on earth should bottles not be promoted?

Fed is best.

Some mums can't breastfeed

There's heaps of research that the high £££ marketing of formula feeding influences choices.

Of course some people can't or prefer not to bf. However giving the impression ff is good for gut health is not ideal. Breastfeeding is miles better for gut health.

It's not a discussion particularly - it's the law.

Agreed surely people make their own decisions

lalalalalalaleeee · 22/06/2023 07:09

@TookTheBook

Well, it's a ridiculous law. Parents should have all the facts about both forms of feeding, instead of being made to feel bad if they can't breastfeed

Some people think that a mother who fully intends to breastfeed will see a picture of a bottle and might change their mind.
