New feature - sensitive images

Hi all,

We recently released a new feature on our post editor, which enables you to mark images as 'sensitive' when uploading them to your posts.

When you choose to mark an image as sensitive, it will be hidden from other users until they click on it. This ensures that the image is not immediately visible to everyone who views your posts, giving you more control over the content that you share.

We know for example that some health-related imagery may be unsettling for some users, and we hope that this new sensitive flag feature will provide users with greater control over what they see when clicking into threads.

To mark an image as sensitive, simply select the option when uploading your image. We may also mark images as sensitive based on feedback from other users.

We hope that this new feature will enhance your experience on Mumsnet and help to create a more supportive community.

If you have any feedback then please let us know! Thanks!

I have seen a few 'sensitive' images and thought they were auto-done (insert correct technical term) thanks for explaining and HAHAHAHAH at the image you chose, marvellously old skool Grin

MoongazyHare · 18/04/2023 11:45

It’s a good development, and I think will be really useful.

But Hope - that image is pretty terrifying! What is that thing on the left?? 😱

TrombonesAreNotBones · 18/04/2023 11:50

Moongazy that is Soupy the fruit bat and I believe the doll is called Marina but I could be wrong. Long story.

ROAR at you lot.

Oh! I saw this on an ultrasound of twins earlier and it looked a bit like a skull (two sacs - eye sockets) and I thought it was auto generated Grin

The images posted in thread so far are showing immediately on the iPhone app. No clicking required.

Was just going to say this. Images are showing without any warning/sensitive marker.
Using the App on an iPhone iOS 16.4.1

IDLPM · 18/04/2023 12:03

Sorry folks, mine should be labelled 'Insensitive Content' but I couldn't see that box to tick.

SquidgersMummy · 18/04/2023 12:07

On my iPhone on the app and I can see all the images too without selecting anything.

SoftCoeur · 18/04/2023 12:09

Good idea, but yes, I can see them without any clicking on the app.

SnowmansLand · 18/04/2023 12:19

Same as above

SquareRootOfAllEvil · 18/04/2023 12:23

Can there be a feature to hide them again after you’ve clicked?

KatyMumsnet · 18/04/2023 12:31

Hi all - we’re working on bringing it to the apps but it's not yet available so please bear with us.

We usually roll out new features on desktop and mobile initially - this is to get feedback from you all but also the work to roll it out on the app is a separate process.

You roll the dice, Square, you gotta live with the result... but then you are speaking to the person who has spent the last five mins looking for @frannyandzooey's original photo of her son's artwork with the intention of rickrolling the bejeezus out of you all.
I have failed. I come up empty-handed. (unlike Fran Help ds1 has made a large clay cock | Mumsnet)

I mean it is an erect penis. It is in proportion and quite detailed. He didn't intend it for a cock as far as I know - he was just messing about with...

I could see what that was before clicking on it - seems the blurring isn’t very effective for everything!

SoupDragon · 19/04/2023 09:02

Will this also apply to awful huge photos that get put up as part of that link preview "improvement"?

IncompleteSenten · 19/04/2023 09:08

Soupy AND Terry's cock on the same thread.
Ahhh. Memories
