We'd like to include in our "how to keep your children safe on the internet guide" - a Mumsnet top 50 (20?, 10?) sites you'd be happy to let your children loose on.

Please post your recommendations here.

Thanks

There is this site called Mumsnet which I wouldn't let my kids touch with a bargepole. Pure filth it is!

funny games some good games - but needs a little supervision as some of the games are targeted at older children. DS aged 8.

cbeebies (4-7ish?)
cbbc (just starting at nearly 7)
bbc bitesize (4+ish?)
just discovered club penguin (nearly 7)
Another vote for woolands primary school - fab site for education aligned games - better than bitesize
Tamatown (sorry had to lower the tone - but need a tamagotchi for this)

As well as Cbeebies/CBBC/ClubPenguin/Miniclip, which my kids are totally hooked on:

ChessKids is very popular with the eldest - not just chess but some other games like battleships, the one where you draw straight lines on a grid of dots and get to colour the box in when you get four sides, etc. etc. - although I just looked and they seem to be quite well hidden now.

My boys are 6 and 8. They think Google is the key to the universe, which is quite worrying - ah, how I remember fondly when my geeky friend Jules recommended it as a little-known, up-and-coming alternative to AltaVista...

DDs are 8 and 9. BBC sites for homework, otherwise Club Penguin and Webkinz. We have no parental controls. In fact, we have no parental control . And only where I can see what they're up to - no taking the laptops upstairs.

Dd 11
Club Penguin
Stardolls
Miniclip/addicting games
watches music video's on utube.

Dd 15
Goes where she wants, has a myspace account but is set to private so only her friends can see it. She uses it lots to do homework.

They are both very aware of the dangers of giving out personal details on the w.w.w. and the computer is in the family room so I can look at any time to see what they are doing.

Club Penguin - full membership as it does make a difference. Put the "safe chat" on if you have concerns (can only "talk" with pre-defined drop downs).

It's taught ds the value of budgeting and the need to "earn" stuff so that he can furnish his igloo or get special clothing for his penguin.

Mine are too young to do anything on their own (3 and 6).

When they're older I'll want some sort of parental controls on whatever they access and only downstairs where I can supervise until they're teenagers I think. Even when they're teens I'll prob not leave them with their phones/computers in their rooms overnight until they're say 15/16 depending on how mature and responsible they are.
