We'd like to include in our "how to keep your children safe on the internet guide" - a Mumsnet top 50 (20?, 10?) sites you'd be happy to let your children loose on.

Please post your recommendations here.

Thanks

Club Penguin

Similar one about horses

gegs73 · 04/03/2008 17:56

DS is 3 almost 4:
Hotwheels
Playmobil
Cbeebies

GrinningSoul · 04/03/2008 18:03

For DS, 8 - he's a paid-up (own money) member of AdventureQuest and Club Penguin; also miniclip, cbbc, he likes to browse youtube for football clips but that has to be under supervision.

for DD, 4 - poisson rouge, cbeebies, sesame street, www.coloring.ws for online colouring, tuxpaint (download)

TheMaskedPoster · 04/03/2008 18:08

well, My ds1 who is 13 and my dd who is 15 both use facebook, bebo & myspace for keeping in touch with their friends, youtube sometimes and msn for instant messaging with their friends. I'm led to believe this is quite normal for kids aged 12+. Am I right??

ska · 04/03/2008 18:29

worldmaths.com, cbbbc, educationcity, my dsd age 14 uses myspace and the 12 y o loves utube but i do worry about those last 2

PandaG · 04/03/2008 18:55

8 yo - cbbc, miniclip, nickjr and scratch (for own programming and playing games others have created - I keep an eye on this, some of the games are older than others, but the programming bit fine)
6 yo - cbeebies, miniclip (when her brother has set it up!) nickjr

computer is in lounge with screen facing into room so I keep a check on what is going on.

beansmum · 04/03/2008 19:09

3yo - none
I sometimes print stuff off cbeebies for him, colouring in pages etc.

DoubleBluff · 04/03/2008 19:23

Another vote for Club Penguin here. DS1 loves it. i cannot MN anymore as he always beats me to the pooter.

hana · 04/03/2008 19:38

haven't read others but dd (6) navigates her way around these sites, I have no problems with it

cbeebies
up to 10
poisson rouge
starfall
magickinder
my little pony

although I don't rate the last 2

PillockOfTheCommunity · 04/03/2008 19:40

Cbeebies
Bob the builder

for a preschooler (ds - age 4)

hewlettsdaughter · 04/03/2008 19:48

3 year old: CBeebies and Peppa Pig official site

JoshandJamie · 04/03/2008 19:51

clickandplay.com -features all the well known TV characters like Bob the Builder, Thomas, Angelina Ballerina, Paddington Bear, BArney, Pingu etc. Kids can't get onto other sites from it so its entirely safe. It's the only one I let my 4 year old use without supervision

SorenLorensen · 04/03/2008 19:59

Wincle School's website- section for games Educational and fun- ds2 (6) loves it, and ds1 (10) has been known to have a dabble too. We have 7 million printouts of coats of arms...

Mercy · 04/03/2008 20:03

Boohbah zone (3+)

poissonrouge (3+)

Thomas and Friends ((3+)

Woodlands Junior School (6+)

Charlie and Lola (4+)

Kneebouncers (2+)

Cbeebies/Citv/Disney playhouse etc

Mercy · 04/03/2008 20:07

There is another one called bored kids or something and has some great links, especially to a NASA or National Geographic site where you can see different planets in real time (will try to remember what it's called)

TheMadHouse · 04/03/2008 20:08

My DS1 is 2.11 and we let him use the following, but with supervision

Poisson Rouge
Cbeebies
Playhouse Disney
Nick Jnr

Hulababy · 04/03/2008 20:10
