Biscuit?

I've seen in in a couple threads and not sure what's meant by it.

Since when did a wine glass have a square base? Wink

It was Gordon Brown. He only wanted to answer serious questions and didn't engage with the chitchat side of the Mumsnet agenda.

I thought everyone knew that! It means NO COMMENT. Or "I couldn't possibly comment", or sometimes "I am speechless" in the sense of "you cannot be serious".

Mumsnet used to get serious politicians to do a webinar during elections; a standard question to lighten things up was "what's your favourite biscuit". Just before variants of "talk me through this policy you've just announced that is unaffordable/diametrically opposed to what you promised last week/designed to hit single parents hardest". Great fun. Would have loved to hear the Liz Truss webinar.

Surely a Jam Sandwich Cream and not a Jammy Dodger ..the centre would be a heart if it was a Dodger.

You must be seeing something different to me - my base is round! :D

AdaColeman · 09/11/2022 15:45

Biscuit stands for "no comment" and dates back to a webchat with Gordon Brown where he said he didn't know what his favourite biscuit was. So the Biscuit came to mean that a post was so stupid or pointless that you couldn't be bothered to comment on it.

Pixiedust1234 · 09/11/2022 15:46

I had guessed about the biscuit one but I'm not sure what or when Bear is used

Notjusta · 09/11/2022 15:47

I think it means someone has taken the biscuit doesn't it? I'm sure it pre-dates Gordon Brown.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 09/11/2022 15:49

How strange, this is definitely square on both my Chromebook and phone

BigFatLiar · 09/11/2022 15:49

I thought it was a tit. Arse will do though.

I think someone's already said that the Gordon Brown thing is a myth, but then if its more fun than the true derivation go with it.

JaneJeffer · 09/11/2022 15:50

Weird @CherieBabySpliffUp

mellicauli · 09/11/2022 15:51

It's not a myth. I remember the session well. I think it was whether Gordon was ignoring the biscuit questions or whether he wasn't given them was in question.

BigFatLiar · 09/11/2022 16:02

MNHQ were feeding Gordon Brown questions to answer, and they didn't ask him the biscuit question.

From an earlier posting the thread. Only on mumsnet do you get scorned and entervinto history for failing to answer a question you weren't asked.

picklemewalnuts · 09/11/2022 16:06

I'm fairly sure he returned with the answer- which became the Biscuit.

But definitely used as a scornful 'Yeah, right.'
It's the emoji version of 'Did he, aye?'

Indicates a combination of disbelief and complete lack of interest.

DH says we should be louder during sex when the kids are home, so they know we are happy!
