Biscuit?

I've seen in in a couple threads and not sure what's meant by it.

rainydays365 · 08/11/2022 21:18

I think it's a flower

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 08/11/2022 21:20

I thought it was a biscuit - as in your taking the biscuit/pee. ?

I guess if we don’t know it has less ‘power’ to intimidate/be rude than the poster who uses it, thinks it has. 🤷‍♀️

LilyMumsnet · 08/11/2022 21:21

It's a biscuit! Grin

MollieMarie · 08/11/2022 21:21

I think it's a Jammie Dodger. I think it's supposed to mean the thread is a troll/goady thread and the poster is going to avoid/"dodge" it IYSWIM

Wigeon · 08/11/2022 21:22

It’s a biscuit (I think jammy dodger). It’s used as a shorthand for “no comment”, where the poster is saying sarcastically “oh alright then” and expressing scepticism or doubt over what’s being said. I can’t quite remember the origins!

FiveShelties · 08/11/2022 21:23

I thought it meant that they thought the poster was being ridiculous or making things up.

Not that anyone would make up anything on here.

Kleptronic · 08/11/2022 21:25

As in, I think, 'that takes the biscuit - here, take it'.

Elsanore · 08/11/2022 21:25

I used to think it was a biscuit and giving it to someone in a comment means you think some one is being unreasonable, as in "that takes the biscuit!"

Well, I think it is genuinely supposed to be a Jammie dodger biscuit. But people thought it looks like a bum hole, so if you give someone a Biscuit it means you're calling them an arsehole.

I had to have it explained to me!!

MollieMarie · 08/11/2022 21:28

Wow I didn't realise everyone has such different interpretations of it Grin

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/11/2022 21:29

It came from a politician refusing to name their fave biscuit in a Q&A once.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 08/11/2022 21:29

Jammie dodger! What @MollieMarie said (both posts!)

Lily is laughing because she knows it means arsehole Grin

It was Gordon Brown. He only wanted to answer serious questions and didn't engage with the chitchat side of the Mumsnet agenda.

Elsanore · 08/11/2022 21:33

It was invented as a cute biscuit emoji and the meaning evolved.

That's not what happened!

MNHQ were feeding Gordon Brown questions to answer, and they didn't ask him the biscuit question. What with him being a very serious politician and all! So he didn't ignore it - he was never asked it.

DatingDinosaur · 08/11/2022 22:19

I thought is was a biscuit emoji used to mean no comment even though you really want to say something. As in, you can’t say anything if your mouth’s full of a biscuit. Sort of biting your tongue.

I’m massively overthinking this!

RustyBear · 08/11/2022 22:33

I believe the Mumsnet obsession with biscuits started with this 2007 thread, which began as a slightly strange question about Mumsnet's perceived religious bias and got totally derailed (as threads so often did in the old days) and became all about biscuits

Biscuit

Sorry.............Couldn't resist!

FannyCann · 08/11/2022 22:46

Are we allowed to ask about other emojis?

Glitterball I thought this was a grenade. Which has potential uses. But apparently it's a glitterball. Not sure I have a use for that.
So I still use my grenade sometimes.

PronounsBaby · 09/11/2022 02:01

Ah ok! Thanks all. Could mean a couple things then I guess depending on the context.

Not seen the glitter ball or grande before!
