I have just noticed at the top it says welcome and log out what is that about and what is log out for?

How long has it been there?

I think it's quite new, I've only just noticed it myself!

suzywong · 20/11/2004 12:12

It is a bad idea IMO as anyone hovering over your shoulder can easily see your talk name, and that is not always ideal

Can we lose it please?

Cadbury · 20/11/2004 12:15

I find it useful as myt dh posts here and we were unable to change over user names easily. Now this is here. We can log out and log in depending on who is posting. But, I guess I don't mind my dh knowing who I am, so point taken Madame Wong. I wonder if it could just say logged in or logged out.

ScummyMummy · 20/11/2004 12:15

I like it because you can now gather the threads you've posted on together- see the new "Threads I'm on" link at the top?

ScummyMummy · 20/11/2004 12:16

Couldn't you just log out after each post, Suzy? Or is that a bit of a faff?

KangaMummy · 20/11/2004 12:17

SW I don't have the problem of security with my computer being at home

I was just surprized when I saw it.

I was just wondering what the log out was for?

It could make some people quite paranoid, I imagine

KangaMummy · 20/11/2004 12:18

I think the threads I am on is brill

OP posts:
tech · 20/11/2004 12:21

Hi, We'll change it so it doesn't display your name. I did think of that, but... Threads I'm on will still work of course.

tech · 20/11/2004 12:22

Done dat.

tech · 20/11/2004 12:24

Log out is because.... you might have noticed that once you've posted a message, the site "remembers" your nickname and password until you close your browser session, so you don't have to keep typing them each time you add a message. "Log out" makes it forget, so you can leave the room without worrying about pesky children / husbands impersonating you. We are basically overhauling a few things about registration / CAT / email newsletters etc to make it all simpler and easier to manage in one place. This is part of that. I'm hoping to get "threads I'm watching" up this weekend.

ScummyMummy · 20/11/2004 12:32

Wow. that was quick, tech.

tech · 20/11/2004 12:36

Having a bit of a mumsnet day....

ScummyMummy · 20/11/2004 12:36

Me too. Must stop, must stop...

KangaMummy · 20/11/2004 12:40

oh that's better! came on this morning & was surprised at being asked to log in & a bit peeved to have my username showing, with my 15 yo standing behind me. DH & my mother have an annoying over-the-shoulder habit as well, so I'm pleased to get back & find the name gone.

KangaMummy · 20/11/2004 20:05

Is there a way that I can stay logged in please as I keep being logged out

I know for some people it is neccessary and helpful but as I have got it to remember my password I don't see how it will help with security IYSWIM

Hope you can give me an idea how to stop logging off. BTW I am not leaving mumsnet when this happens just going between threads or top 50!!!

Please help

thanks tech

Hi there, It's been happening this evening because I've benn stopping and starting the server. When I shut it down it "forgets" everybody. It should keep you in now, unless you don't do anything for about 30 minutes, in which case it will log you out.

Regards,
Tech

KangaMummy · 20/11/2004 20:22

Hope so

thanks tech
