Seriously MNHQ. The country is shutting down and you are trialling in thread ads for holidays. When so many people have had to cancel things, including holidays. And for it be in a thread about isolation. Hmm

Oh the irony. Putting the same advert into this thread...

Agreed. @mumsnet your shopbots are not helpFul and the algorithm clearly doesn't work if its spamming holidays in c19 threads.

GreyhoundzRool · 18/03/2020 23:14

Yes I agree. Really badly timed ShopBot ads for holidays ?! What on Earth are you thinking ??

CornishPorsche · 18/03/2020 23:15

Same here. So intrusive as well.

NOT a welcome addition @mnhq, please remove!

Awful idea. I struggle to tear myself away from Mumsnet at times. This might just do the trick.

PinkBuffalo · 18/03/2020 23:17

Have they just suddenly appeared in every thread? I was not sure what was happening

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 18/03/2020 23:24

I came here to raise the same issue. Incredibly distasteful and puts you off using this site!

thenightsky · 18/03/2020 23:26

I thought MN had been hacked! I was trying to figure out how to report all the spam.

PestyMachtubernahme · 18/03/2020 23:27

OK MNHQ what bit of no unnecessary travelare you failing to grasp?

mynameisMrG · 18/03/2020 23:28

I’m sure they trialled this before and everyone said it was distracting and often in poor taste of the thread was of a sensitive nature. Why are they doing it again? And what terrible timing

Smallinthesmoke · 18/03/2020 23:29

yes, my first thought was it looks like a hack again. Actively puts me off whatever it's promoting.

Becca19962014 · 18/03/2020 23:30

These ads need to stop IMMEDIATELY.

It's totally irresponsible to be advertising holidays. Some of us are in vulnerable positions, living rurally with people overwhealming our little medical resources leaving local people who respect the issues without help, this has been raised in parliament by rural MPs as the worst possible time for people to be heading away.

It's seriously offensive.

You can't even report this bot to MNHQ.

SoShere · 18/03/2020 23:31

Its either Hs themselves or MN.

chomalungma · 18/03/2020 23:33

MN Bots...

I thought some of the ads on the sidebar were bad enough

But In thread Bot ads....

CrocodileFrock · 18/03/2020 23:35

All the sensitivity of a brick, MNHQ.

This really isn't the time to have bots cropping up with discounts on holidays... Hmm

Plainandsimple · 18/03/2020 23:36

These ads need to come down now. There's a heartbreaking thread from a mum worried her daughter is about to try & commit suicide, and a fucking cheery 'here's a Hoseasons holiday' ad pops up! Seriously bad taste Mumsnet, take them down.

AhoyMrBeaver · 18/03/2020 23:38

Idiot move. Take the bloody things down.

TheFlis12345 · 18/03/2020 23:41

I came here to report this. Horrendously distasteful!

Hingeandbracket · 18/03/2020 23:42

We're currently testing automated posts in a few threads to see if it is helpful. As always, let us know if you have any feedback. MNHQ.
It's a shit idea - are you on fucking crack?

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 18/03/2020 23:42

They must have been hacked. Mnhq are not that stupid. Surely

Becca19962014 · 18/03/2020 23:42

I've reported the thread so the bot is seen (no offence op).

I know my healthboard along with others in rural Wales are sending people home who are irresponsibly travelling here to be safe and trying to access treatment whilst here - I and others who live in these rural areas with very few if any services have been urging anyone we see suggesting a holiday or break to second home not to do it.

I too have seen it appearing on other totally inappropriate threads.

This has happened before.

This isn't the time to be trialling these things, it's bad enough getting ads for dodgy websites (and no I can't turn them off and I've not been searching for face masks so it's nothing to do with my search history) and, to be blunt if you want people's opinions then do not turn off the ability to report the bot!

Becca19962014 · 18/03/2020 23:45

todays theyve done it before, and at a similarly stupid time (middle of night when no staff around and no means to report).

You can't put ads according to bots scanning words in posts. Last time there were some horrendous problems where people were posting upsetting things and find their posts hijacked with ads all over the place for things that were completely inappropriate - think bereavement type threads.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/03/2020 23:46

Every fucking thread.

Someone died? Have 5% of a holiday.

Becca19962014 · 18/03/2020 23:47

I see the ad has gone from this thread.
I assume night watch (if they still exist) are on the case.

StealthPolarBear · 18/03/2020 23:47

I went to report the spam to mnhq and then realised they were the author!
I don't believe it was intentional though.
