Mumsnet, when might we get a coronavirus topic like we had for swine flu? It was useful then, and it could have the nhs advice at the top as a sticky.

OP posts:
hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/03/2020 15:05

please do this
It's beyond ridiculous

MaryHerbert · 01/03/2020 15:06

May I second, third, whatever, the suggestion of a sticky at the top of threads, with links to reliable sources of information such as the nhs, bbc etc.

It's not that this information isn't easily found elsewhere by anyone who looks for it, but the sticky would help to counter misinformation being posted on threads, as posters could be pointed to it. People with questions about, for example, self-isolation, could also be pointed to it.

The bbc, for example, has a useful page of advice and information: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51674696

Cohle · 01/03/2020 16:28

I'd also like to add my voice to those requesting this.

So many threads are encouraging people to disregard their GP's advice - I'm really surprised MNHQ aren't taking a harder line on it.

AriadnesFilament · 01/03/2020 17:29

I am starting to lose my mind - I must have hidden 10 threads just this afternoon.

Is there any particular reason they can’t all go in place?

singandwing · 01/03/2020 17:32

MNHQ have all self isolated and got themselves confused about what computer viruses are so are offline as well as locked in their spare rooms.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/03/2020 17:55

There is dangerous misinformation being shared
HQ should be keeping a careful eye

mynameiscalypso · 01/03/2020 17:58

Please for the love of god can you do this. And then be super brutal about moving threads into the topic.

Reallybadidea · 01/03/2020 19:14

@MNHQ you haven't commented on this thread for 5 days now. Are you still 'thinking about it'?!

SubordinateThatClause · 01/03/2020 20:58

New topic PLEASE?!

CornishPorsche · 01/03/2020 21:00

For the love of pete, please please please quarantine these CV threads! All the bloody handwringing is getting incredibly tedious.

BabbleBee · 01/03/2020 21:32

I’ve already asked once, but PLEASE!!! Even threads that don’t seem to refer to coronavirus in the title are about... coronavirus!!

Aridane · 01/03/2020 22:13

And please include a prominent banner or sticky like the one I screen grabbed earlier from Reddit

The hysteria and ill informed comments and panic on the threads are shocking

Aridane · 01/03/2020 22:16

PS

Pretty please

Let’s have a Q&A with a representative from the WHO or UK gov. It would be grimly hilarious to listen to posters telling the WHO / UK gov that they have it wrong and everyone must not travel (even in the UK), that self isolation must be practised on return from areas for affected by coronavirus and the public transport and supermarkets now need to be avoided

WhentheDealGoesDown · 01/03/2020 22:25

It’s all a bit macabre on the threads, they are constantly waiting for the next death, they need to be be put in isolation

Aridane · 01/03/2020 22:34

Or all put together in one hellish quarantine facility!!!!!!

BringMeTea · 02/03/2020 07:23

Just had to hide 7 threads just on page 1 of aibu. Why are you so reluctant to move these threads? It is very off putting.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 02/03/2020 07:27

As someone with health anxiety, I'd really like a dedicated thread for Coronavirus. Being able to filter out the threads would benefit me immensely.

And no, before you all jump on me, I'm not burying my head in the sand. I'm keeping abreast of the headlines, but anything more would have a detrimental effect on me.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/03/2020 07:27

Another vote for yes please, about half the threads on my active topics was for Coronavirus

Would be good to just have them in one place pls

MichaelMumsnet · 02/03/2020 11:48

Hi all, and thanks for the suggestions.
We've discussed in the office and we're trying out a new area dedicated to Coronavirus discussion.

AuntieStella · 02/03/2020 11:53

Thank you

Will you be moving new threads and those which were started elsewhere, but which continue to be active, to the topic?

BringMeTea · 02/03/2020 12:02

Great stuff. Thank you. As above, are all current ones being shifted? Do you require reports to get new ones moved as they continue to be started elsewhere?

soniamumsnet · 02/03/2020 12:21

Hi, just to let you know that we'll keep an eye out for new threads and move as appropriate, so there's no need to report. Flowers

magimedi · 02/03/2020 12:23

Hooray!!

CornishPorsche · 02/03/2020 12:25

Hallelujah! Thanks HQ. Promptly hidden.

AriadnesFilament · 02/03/2020 12:34

Hurrah!
