Mumsnet, when might we get a coronavirus topic like we had for swine flu? It was useful then, and it could have the nhs advice at the top as a sticky.

OP posts:
Aridane · 23/02/2020 11:49

(like 2, 4 & 8)

teta · 23/02/2020 12:07

Yes, I think we need a separate topic too. It really does look pretty inevitable that there is going to be worldwide spread of Covid19 in the near future. Prepared is forearmed.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/02/2020 12:12

I’d be interested in whether the majority of MN users use topics like that. I reckon they tend to use Active and the high traffic areas like AIBU and Chat... and that topics tend to be used by a small segment who have interest in that specific area, or to hide threads on that topic. MNHQ “tidying up” a lot of topics into other bigger ones last year supports this theory...

I’d hazard a guess that putting Coronavirus threads into a topic would make it easier to hide and ignore; more than providing a “community” place for people to go to talk about it. But it would be tidier...

onalongsabbatical · 23/02/2020 12:17

Yes, I'm still in support of this. Wonder if @MNHQ have had their think. Nineteen days of thinking - might a conclusion have incubated by now? Hmm

soniamumsnet · 24/02/2020 11:14

Hi, we're still looking at the number of threads on this while we have a think. Flowers

onalongsabbatical · 24/02/2020 12:01

Looooooong think sonia Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2020 12:55

What aspects are you thinking about when considering the idea Sonia?

brokenstone · 24/02/2020 13:07

The current threads on Mumsnet regarding Coronavirus have a lot of misinformation.

Twitter currently directs users to the Department of Health and Social Care in order to get the latest factual information.

Maybe this is something Mumsnet could do?

Evidencebased · 24/02/2020 22:12

The first MNHQ test was negative, but they're self-isolating the idea until the 2nd test is in ?Wink

Aridane · 24/02/2020 22:34

And wondering whether all the sick Coronavirus threads should all be quarantined together

onalongsabbatical · 25/02/2020 15:35

I wonder if @MNHQ is still busy thinking?
Because I think today's the day to do this.

onalongsabbatical · 28/02/2020 15:25

@MNHQ ffs you've been 'thinking' about this since the 4th Feb! Loads of Covid-19 threads and hordes of people complaining about another one, stop it everyone!
It's getting like Brexit! Needs a topic!

BabbleBee · 28/02/2020 21:31

@MNHQ please can we have a separate topic, not because it’s useful to have info all in one place but to clear active from bloody coronavirus! Every other post!!!

BringMeTea · 28/02/2020 22:31

Please move them. Getting silly now.

TheLarkDescending · 28/02/2020 22:33

Yes, please can we have a separate topic. Or train posters not to start threads when there are already eleventy-billion discussing the exact same thing.

Separate topic is probably easier.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/02/2020 07:07

I think it's needed now; hearing the news that class size numbers will be increased to cope with absent teachers made me quite concerned as this would definitely be a safety issue in some schools with children who are struggling, certainly in mine which is an SEN school.

We couldn't guarantee safety for pupils or staff in some classes.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/02/2020 07:08

It's not really the virus that this topic is needed for but the economic impact of the strategies.

Plus the cobra meeting is on Monday and I think there'll be a lot coming from there.

AuntieStella · 29/02/2020 07:11

Repeating my plea thatb it be an 'emerging diseases' topic.

It seems one is needed every few years, and it would be good to have all the threads together (not lost in a cull each time)

PurplePonderer · 29/02/2020 07:38

Please please can there be a separate topic. It’s swamping Active now.

Reallybadidea · 29/02/2020 08:52

I cannot imagine what the reason would be for not having a separate topic for this @MNHQ. I think that being unable to escape from being confronted with the word 'coronavirus' wherever they go on the Internet is having a real impact on the mental health of some people. And a large proportion of everyone else is just irritated by it now.

AriadnesFilament · 29/02/2020 20:37

I specifically came here to ask this very question.

The number of threads I’m having to hide every day at the moment is getting ridiculous. They all need to be in one place.

Aridane · 29/02/2020 22:30

To be honest, a large subset of the threads on coronavirus should be going on the mental health boards given the disturbing intensity of health anxiety displayed

BloomedAgain · 29/02/2020 22:34

Yes it would be very useful for those wanting to discuss eg support for the immune suppressed and also those wanting to hide it.

PurplePonderer · 01/03/2020 11:32

It’s bizarre to me how militant @MNHQ have been about putting Harry and Meghan threads into the Royal Family topic because people found it a bit tedious, but these CV threads are just proliferating and alarming many people or boring them tears. Plus those who are interested in the topic could find it more easily in a dedicated topic.

Aridane · 01/03/2020 13:20

Probably easier to monitor H&M by corralling them in case H&M developed McCann like litigious tendencies
