Can we ban the 'c' word?

By 'c word', I mean the word 4-letter word that is another word for female genitalia.

As this is a female-dominated forum, I find it highly inappropriate that this word is allowed to be used so liberally. Personally, I think that it is one of the most disgusting words in the English language. As a feminist, i find it highly offensive, and i would like to see it banned from these forums. From what I have seen, it is usually used to insult people (See the current Jordan Peterson thread, for example). However, I find this an insult in itself. Why is being compared to female body parts considered a gross insult? It shouldn't be at all. Mumsnet, as one of the UKs female-focused websites, should take a stand on this word, i think.

I think that swearing in general is okay, but a small number of words are unacceptable because of their literal meaning.

I think the word "panties" is worse than the word "cunt", and wish to ban the use of that on MN.

No English woman uses the word ‘panties’. It’s only used by men and Americans.

you have too much time on your hands terfing

bsc · 03/01/2019 12:34

Indeed Chester - it's how you can tell a poster is a man!

"Her hubby removed her panties and found the gusset was moist"

There we go! Triggered everyone on the thread Grin

PositivelyPERF · 03/01/2019 12:38

bsc That is the vilest cunting sentence I’ve ever read on Mumsnet. 🤢

OnlineAlienator · 03/01/2019 12:42

Hahahaaa so true bsc!

ChesterGreySideboard · 03/01/2019 12:47

Ohhh. Why would you say something like that?

DaedricLordSlayer · 03/01/2019 12:48

it made me wince reading that bsc

I’m loving the fact that a thread that was started to discuss the word cunt, has enough swearing to make a builder blush’s. 🤣

Except for that horrible sentence that does not bear repeating.

BeyondShattered · 03/01/2019 13:09

My mum never used to swear when I was younger (she does now, though still tells me off for it), but always said she had more right to use the word, being in possession of one.

BeyondShattered · 03/01/2019 13:11

Bsc, great triggering sentence- but you missed "pussy"

Bowlofbabelfish · 03/01/2019 13:12

I dont want any more censorship of what we can say in here.

PortiaCastis · 03/01/2019 13:14

When he pokes his little stick into my baby nest I quite like it

Said to me by a friend who I went to school with

Not a lot of hope with that one then

bsc · 03/01/2019 13:27

I take issue with fanjo being on the no use list- my last car was called Fanjo!

Datun · 04/01/2019 15:05

"Her hubby removed her panties and found the gusset was moist"

There we go! Triggered everyone on the thread grin

Oh dear goddddd. Go and wash your mouth out.

🤣

Datun · 04/01/2019 15:06

And since we're here, clitty is another word that makes my knees slam together with a clang.

GerdaLovesLiIi · 07/01/2019 11:48

Does that mean that we would no longer be allowed to say, "I'd call you a cunt, but you lack the warmth and depth."? Because that would be sad.

Even a little censorship is a dangerous thing.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 07/01/2019 16:24

Hello all - thanks for your thoughts and apologies for the late response.

We've no plans to ban swearing on Mumsnet, but of course, context is everything, and so we wouldn't allow swear words if used as a personal attack towards another poster, for example, or anything which generally caused a sharp intake of breath among even our most hardened of moderators... Gin

If you're upset by anything you see on the site, do report it and we'll take a look.

Thanks,
MNHQ
