Can we ban the 'c' word?

By 'c word', I mean the word 4-letter word that is another word for female genitalia.

As this is a female-dominated forum, I find it highly inappropriate that this word is allowed to be used so liberally. Personally, I think that it is one of the most disgusting words in the English language. As a feminist, i find it highly offensive, and i would like to see it banned from these forums. From what I have seen, it is usually used to insult people (See the current Jordan Peterson thread, for example). However, I find this an insult in itself. Why is being compared to female body parts considered a gross insult? It shouldn't be at all. Mumsnet, as one of the UKs female-focused websites, should take a stand on this word, i think.

I think that swearing in general is okay, but a small number of words are unacceptable because of their literal meaning.

I don’t like any insult that is based on sex organs. Using them in a derogatory way demeans vital parts of human anatomy. And why just genitalia? Why don’t we call people a lung or an intestine? Why are we using words for genitals to insult people? It’s not like a vagina, a penis or an anus are horrible things? I find it a bit weird.

The word is no more sexist than the word twat or pussy or quim (mewling quim was used in the first avengers film without much upset), dick, Knob head etc.

Sure it’s been said on this thread but I would like cunt to replace vagina in all the medical dictionaries and common usage. It’s the only word that ONLY means that part of anatomy. Vagina comes from the Latin word fro sheath (as in for a dagger) and I am more than a sheath. As a feminist I would like all words relating to females not be adjuncts to the male word. Obviously female is a problem too.

I used to find it offensive, but I think it's been reclaimed by women, and can be used powerfully.
And also, you can't beat it for comedy value in the right situations.

I'm not sure that's true. Just about the worst word I can think of is nigger because of its historic association with oppression and abuse.

You can't call people that on MN, nor can you call them a cunt. There is probably a difference in severity in how both would be dealt with, but that's fair because cunt doesnt have the same history associated with it.

racist or hate words fine, but to start policing what swear words people can use is too much. I left a similar site over something similar (not me being banned, but the general hang wringing when people used swear words). we're adults, we swear, it's fine!

I think there's a lot of truth in that. Sort of look at me , I'm so empowered I describe my vagina as a cunt or look at me, I'm so immune to female socialisation I'm happy to use cunt as an insult

I also vote (not that this is a poll!) for no censoring of words. I love a bit of swearing and have never understood why cunt is considered the worst word and you must NEVER say it. Why is it any worse that any other swearword. So very weird to have a swearword hierarchy.

To be clear , I'm not asking for a ban. Crack on using it if you want.
