Dear Lovely Mumsnet HQ

I was just wondering whether we might be able to have a Governor topic within Education please and thank you

Thanks to everyone who has commented.

Absolutely we would need to be mindful of confidentiality, as I am sure we all are when commenting on school-related matters currently, and yes some discussions are probably better in wider topics, but I do think there is potential for a topic too.

MNHQ, I don't know how many people you had in mind to demonstrate a call for it, but it does look like if you build it, they will come Smile

Thank you TyneTeas Grin. We'll pass this all on over and upwards and will keep you posted here.

I'm a parent governor and whilst I am well meaning and dedicated, I don't always feel I have a handle on what's going on. So something like this would be great.

frazzled3ds · 27/06/2017 20:03

Another yes please here too! Thank you.

highinthesky · 27/06/2017 20:11

I would vote yes but issues will have to be kept general not to breach confidentiality

Agreed. Am particularly interested in how effective other governors objectively consider their GBs to be - I note that "Twenty Questions" lacks 20 model answers!

2gorgeousboys · 27/06/2017 20:25

Another one that thinks it's a good idea.

lougle · 27/06/2017 21:07

Yes, with the caveat of confidentiality and the usual MN disclaimer of not having checked the credentials of anyone posting, etc. All Governors need to bear in mind that their LA Governor Services (or equivalent) should be their ultimate source of guidance if they are in any doubt about best practice or correct procedure. MN should only be a source of friendly support.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/06/2017 23:32

Agree with the confidentiality caveat but could be a useful way to draw on Governor experiences. Currently working on my school's vision and somewhere to find people who might have some pointers would be great. As a parent governor, I'm a bit out on a limb with some things.

SweetieBaby · 29/06/2017 16:35

I think that this is a very good idea. Would love to see it happen.

highinthesky · 29/06/2017 17:10

Has sufficient support been demonstrated that the powers-that-be at MNHQ acquiesce to our demands?

What do we want? a governors' board
When do we want it? NOW!

^^ If you don't, I shall just have to report you to the head Hmm

TwoLeftSocks · 29/06/2017 17:13

Yes please! Thought this quite often lately.

Babbaganush · 30/06/2017 12:34

Great idea!!!

Having seen a few Governor threads recently, I remembered about this I posted a few months ago...
