Dear Lovely Mumsnet HQ

I was just wondering whether we might be able to have a Governor topic within Education please and thank you

That would be a good idea - yes please!

LornaMumsnet · 23/06/2017 08:50

Hi, TyneTeas! Flowers

Thanks so much for the suggestion.

No promises here but if there are enough people making noise for it, we'd be more than happy to consider.

Anyone interested? Grin

TyneTeas · 23/06/2017 17:19

Thank you Smile

Bumping for any Governors who may like a dedicated topic...

I think this is a good idea. Being a Governor is becoming increasingly more skilled and demanding and having a place on Mumsnet would be a great support.

alabasterangel · 23/06/2017 20:08

Me please. I'm a Governor.

Sittinginthesun · 23/06/2017 20:44

Yes please! It is such a demanding role and I always feel out of place in "the staffroom".

topcat2014 · 23/06/2017 20:56

I would be interested.

mintleaf · 23/06/2017 21:00

Me please

WorraLiberty · 23/06/2017 21:50

A yes from me.

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 23/06/2017 21:57

It's a yes from me too

DanFmDorking · 23/06/2017 21:59

Hmmmmmm …
I see the point and it would make searching for ‘School Governor’ posts and advice easier
-but-
I’m going to argue No.

School Governors are recruited from all sections of the community and I don’t want any MN’ers to think ‘That’s the School Governors section I’m not going to read those posts’ or ‘these aren’t for me’.

I’m not going to ‘go to the wall’ about this but I want ‘School Governor’ issues discussed in the general topics.

Solasum · 23/06/2017 22:04

I'd like it too

birdsdestiny · 23/06/2017 22:23

Yes please.

JennyOnAPlate · 23/06/2017 22:24

Yes please!

BubblesBuddy · 23/06/2017 23:36

I do think there are very specific issues that concern Governors that are not general topics. The issues facing Governors can be complex and although these can be flagged up in the educational phase sections, this is not always satisfactory. If you were a Governor at a SEN school and had a governance query, would it be sensible to put it in the Sen section? I think a dedicated Governor section would be better.

BreconBeBuggered · 24/06/2017 09:57

I don't think a dedicated Governors section would prevent the topic coming up elsewhere. We see lots of people posting on a variety of subjects in general threads. I also read 'The staffroom' from time to time, but in the main I don't feel posts from non-teaching governors would be particularly helpful or relevant. I like reading posts from other governors and it would be great to see current issues in one place.

thedcbrokemybank · 24/06/2017 13:51

Yes please!

zeezeek · 26/06/2017 12:28

Yes please.

geogteach · 26/06/2017 12:40

Yes please

GU24Mum · 26/06/2017 12:42

Another vote for yes please from me!

admission · 26/06/2017 14:52

I would vote yes but issues will have to be kept general not to breach confidentiality, so it may be that the "real action" will be as private messages.

ohforfoxsake · 26/06/2017 14:56

I think it would be really helpful.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 27/06/2017 07:50

Yes from me too.

Changeofnames · 27/06/2017 07:54

Yes please

TheForgetfulCat · 27/06/2017 07:56

Yes please. But noting the point about confidentiality.
