Quiz: who should I vote for?

Hi all

The election is nearly upon us - this Thursday we'll be voting in the party which will govern for the next five years. If you're still undecided - or want to double check that the party you're voting for does actually match your views and values - have a look at this nifty tool we've borrowed from Represent, a social enterprise whose declared mission is to modernise democracy.

Answer some simple questions, and the quiz will tell you which party's manifesto is most closely aligned with your views on important issues. Plus, you'll be participating in a collaborative digital democracy project: Represent anonymises the data and makes it publicly accessible after the election, so the person who eventually becomes your MP can see what their constituents really care about. The idea is to make sure that everyone's voice is heard - not just in the run up to the election, but well beyond it.

Have a go, tell us what you think - and don't forget to share if you like the idea.

Sign up? No thanks. I did the I side with one instead.

JadziaSnax · 06/06/2017 23:31

Nope. I'm not signing up.

Shitalopram · 07/06/2017 03:30

I was prepared to sign up using Facebook (easy to edit what's shared), but every time I answered the first question it took me back to the 'create an account" pop up. Looks like something where design & content has been given loads of attention rather than whether it functions.

Umpteenthnamechange · 07/06/2017 07:08

Nope. Not that easy to get me to sign up.

Sunnymorningwithbacon · 07/06/2017 07:25

No way would I sign up with Facebook to anything.

HangingRock · 07/06/2017 09:06

I gave up when it wanted me to log in with FB/create an acct after only one question

Just revisited the Represent website. They've finally updated their 'countdown' to the election so that it ends on Thursday rather than today as it did originally. Honestly, MNHQ, how can you be encouraging us to sign up to this rubbish run by rank amateurs? Did you do any research?

I don't understand their privacy policy at all: We LOVE transparency. But sometimes privacy can be even better, so you can privately answer any question. We invite you to confirm your identity by linking accounts, and will add more validations as we grow.

I don't trust the 'anonymise your data' line that they've told HQ, as it can actually be difficult to do thoroughly.

Hi all - thanks for the feedback.

On the sign-in issue - there's a strong argument that creating an account actually allows more protection of your data, in that - unlike the other quizzes where you have no control of how your information is used - you can delete your account and your data at any time. Represent also adhere to the very strict EU General Data Protection Regulation legislation which becomes law next year.

Sign-in also makes the other aspect of the tool - getting your voice heard well beyond the 5-yearly election frenzy - more achievable. Because your account is verified, your MP knows that you're not a bot or a hired teen - so your values and opinions carry more weight than, say, a one-off petition. This autumn, for example, Represent are working with Parliament and all the new MPs to get their users' voices hear on the Bills going through the House of Commons - as Conservative MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan said, that's game changing.

But this is all useful feedback - we know that Represent are listening too, so thanks again.

I'm trying to answer the questions but it's skipping past some really quickly that I don't get a chance to answer.
