Please, please, please?

Yes, the BBC don't seem to know the difference between "impartial" and "toeing the party line". Hmm

Thanks Kate. Have MNHQ tweeted in support of Jenni? Because I think that would be an extremely nice thing to do.

PLEASE from me too

dorade · 07/03/2017 23:47

Thanks Kate.

Interesting how Chris Packham can express his personal views with the support of the BBC and how it took Clarkson to assault his producer before he was disciplined, but Jenni makes the FACTUAL assertion that a man is not a woman and she is reprimanded. I wonder why.

SecondRow · 08/03/2017 09:19

Good point Empress - there's plenty MNHQ could do to convey to Jenni and the media that she is far from the only woman to feel as she does. How about it MNHQ?

HumphreyCobblers · 08/03/2017 15:41

It doesn't necessarily follow that because the BBC have issued a warning Jenni Murray will choose not to speak further on this issue.

She might just choose to ignore them, as they are clearly wrong Smile

SloanyAnne · 08/03/2017 15:45

(waves to Humphrey from my sick bed)

I just got this response to my complaint.

Dear Ms

Thanks for contacting us regarding Jenni Murray’s comments about transgender women.

Jenni Murray is a freelance journalist and these were her own views; however she has been reminded that presenters should remain impartial on controversial topics covered by their BBC programmes.

Please be assured that your concerns have been noted for the attention of BBC management.

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.

Kind Regards

BBC Complaints Team

Get well soon SloanyAnne. But I bet that pointless reply won't aid your recovery.

They don't seem to understand that pointing out trans women are not women is not a question of impartiality but of fact.

To be entirely logical about it, the BBC would issue an impartiality warning to anyone saying that trans women ARE real women.

StrawberryTournament · 08/03/2017 18:54

It would be great if Jenni could do a webchat here Smile

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 08/03/2017 19:05

Even if she's not allowed to mention the T word it would be nice to have her on for a general chat so we could express our appreciation for all her work over the years - up to and including this latest stand.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/03/2017 21:02

It's just struck me that we need to keep an eye on any future "controversial" articles written by BNC freelancers and make complaints about them. Perhaps a list could be compiled for the next 12 months and any BBC reaction

cliffdiver · 08/03/2017 21:04

Yes please, would love a web chat with Jenni.

Great idea op.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/03/2017 07:36

What Actually said. We can say thank you even if Jenni can't comment.

OP posts:
ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 10/03/2017 07:43

It would probably be better if it wasn't full of specific mention of trans issues by either side - just a general show of support and affection.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/03/2017 09:46

We can do that can't we HQ?

And then Mumsnet can show support for Jenni without HQ having to explicitly tweet it.

I would love to see a webchat with Jenni Murray. There are many, many issues for her to talk about, the trans point is very far from the only thing. She is and has been an interesting woman for years, long before she even mentioned the word 'trans'. I hope this won't define her.

AskBasil · 14/03/2017 08:01

I got that reply SloanyAnn.

I wrote back and asked them to actually answer my complaint.

Grin
AskBasil · 14/03/2017 08:12

Hmm. So the BBC has silenced one of their most long standing woman journalists, on the subject of womanhood.

That's what I pay my licence fee for, is it.

It would still be worth getting her on because as others have said, she is not defined by a small marginal group of people with XY chromosomes who have decided to launch a massive attack on women's rights; she's been broadcasting and writing about all aspects of women's lives and talking about women's rights, long before most of these misogynists declared that they were women.

I'll be prefacing any question to her with a statement of thanks and support for her article on transwomen.
