Yet another thread gone with this given as the reason when the thread in no way compromised the OP's privacy. Unless of course there is only one ambulance in the entire country?

I've noticed this happening with increasing frequency. What's going on MNHQ?

Completely agree, Maryz - we're meant to be here to make parents' lives easier, so when we get a mail (or, often, multiple mails) from an OP saying they're in tears about a thread, unable to sleep because of it, etc., it feels pretty heartless to leave it running.

Like we said, though, we do always suggest other options where appropriate.

Thanks for understanding our position here.

Good Heavens, if I knew that someone was in tears about complaining about paramedics leaving gauze on her drive I would be Hmm and think they were rather attention seeking.

I'm a parent and a paramedic and opinions like that make my life harder but I was heartened by the fact that everyone thought the OP unreasonable. Perhaps I should message HQ saying that the deletion is causing me tears and sleepless nights and ask for it to be reinstated. Grin

If they really can't cope with people disagreeing with them then perhaps MN isn't the place for them, either that or perhaps they could reconsider their opinions.

OhGood · 02/01/2016 18:29

To be honest, I think in cases where the op has genuinely had a hissy-fit, and is getting really upset by the whole thing, most of us would be fine with it being deleted "at the op's request, because, let's face it, he/she made a bit of a tit of themselves and is very embarrassed"

So do I.

ilovesooty · 02/01/2016 18:57

Thanks Dawn.

Floggingmolly · 02/01/2016 19:00

How did the op manage to circumvent the "usual reporting channels"?

Gruntfuttock · 02/01/2016 19:11

Excellent question, Flogging.

Floggingmolly · 02/01/2016 19:14

I reckon she showed up at Mumsnet Towers with a crate of gin and the threat of a Daily Mail sadface...

I requested a thread deletion over Christmas. I've not had a great time mental health wise recently and posted a late night, highly identifiable rant about my family. MNHQ agreed to delete it but, as it was an ongoing thread and I'd had lots of advice from some lovely posters, they asked if I would first post on the thread explaining why I wanted it deleting. I was happy to do this.
I should never have posted in the first place but I wasn't in a good place so I'm really glad that MNHQ agreed to delete. Also, sometimes something the op says may seem innocuous to us but they may really regret posting it, for whatever reason.
I would hate to think that my 'moment of madness' could have led to me being identified in rl, causing huge issues and also cutting off my support network on here.

This is SO annoying and shouldn't happen IMO.

A thread was just deleted due to OP being a troll but before this was discovered, so many posters were advising 'ask MNHQ to delete this if it's upsetting you'. No!

If there is a genuine risk of OP being outed then fine, delete. But not just because the OP doesn't like the responses. I've had threads I started go a bit pear shaped and had people be rude or unpleasant but I just stop posting and hide the thread.

If we delete threads because someone is 'upset' but apparently can't hide the thread for some reason, we'll end up with very little left on MN!.

IPityThePontipines · 07/01/2016 14:23

Make - was that the family tree homework thread? The deletion message seemed to imply hairy hands were at work...

maketheworldgoaway · 07/01/2016 14:27

Ipity. Yes, I suspected it was a troll but SO many posters were saying 'aw if you're upset just get MN to delete this thread'. No!

Pipbin · 07/01/2016 17:51

Was that one a troll? Bloody hell people troll about some shite. Seriously, why would you make that up?

IPityThePontipines · 07/01/2016 19:39

Usually my trolldar is good, but I was surprised by that one. That was a very manipulative thread and it won't have been their first troll thread, either.

Every - lots of people engaged and gave lots of their personal history too.

I'd agree they did a good job coming across as eloquent too, which makes me think they've done a lot of previous trolling here. Sad
