Yet another thread gone with this given as the reason when the thread in no way compromised the OP's privacy. Unless of course there is only one ambulance in the entire country?

I've noticed this happening with increasing frequency. What's going on MNHQ?

It's baffling as to why they deleted, to me anyway, there was nothing obviously identifying.

OP probably realised she'd been a pillock posting such a daft thread, cringed at her pillockness and the pasteing she was getting then rather than hide the thread begged HQ to press the shiny red button and they obliged..

Odd.

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 13:55

I started a thread about this after another thread went pop.

My thread was deleted for being a TAAT.

As I said at the time it's not the deletion that annoys me but the thin excuse of it being privacy.

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 13:58

And when threads get deleted and I haven't had a chance to read them. just like this ambulance one you are talking about, can someone PM me the details?
If the op is pissed off that a thread isn't going their way maybe they could request it is locked?

Stillunexpected · 02/01/2016 13:59

Well I hope MN will be a bit more grown-up about responding to this one then! I don't think anyone cares about a bit of gauze blowing around particularly, I certainly don't, but I do want to know if there is some kind of policy change about deleting threads just because the OP requests it.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 02/01/2016 14:04

The privacy thing is bollocks. But is useful for adding OPs to the Do You Really Think You Are That Important spreadshit.

Pipistrella · 02/01/2016 14:06

Locking threads is a wonderful idea. It occasionally happens now but would be a highly useful tool IMO if it got rolled out a bit wider.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 02/01/2016 14:06

It's the standard HQ response when they CBA to argue with a whiny OP who can't take being told they're being an arse generally...

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/01/2016 14:07

That is a good deletion message, Pipbin! Grin

I thought this (OP's point) about another thread that was deleted recently as well, although it's possible that someone on it did know the OP, it was deleted while I slept so I don't know how much happened after I'd gone - this was the thread about the woman who wanted to desecrate change a 200yo heirloom ring that her stbMIL had handed on to her - she got told in no uncertain terms that she shouldn't mess with it, but hadn't returned to the thread by the time I went to bed. People weren't even that rude - just 99% in agreement that you just don't DO that to a family heirloom! but I guess the OP got the arse that people thought she was such a soulless desecrator...

ilovesooty · 02/01/2016 14:08

I bet that OP name changes now anyway.

I don't see that there was anything remotely identifiable on that thread.

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 14:12

Thumb she came back and said that she had no intention of doing that. Hmm

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/01/2016 14:20

Did she? How odd! Since she started the thread asking exactly whether or not it was possible to erase an engraving, or failing that, should she melt the ring down...
Odd indeed! Or probably just embarrassed that she was such a heathen Wink

insancerre · 02/01/2016 14:26

Its all very strange
There was no way the ops privacy was compromised

0phelia · 02/01/2016 14:44

I didn't notice the heirloom thread going! Was that deleted for "privacy"?

Hi BoW, afternoon all,

Right, we've taken a look behind the scenes at the thread in question and just wanted to hold our hands up and say it shouldn't have been deleted, or at least not for the reason stated.

Unfortunately in this case, the OP's deletion request hadn't gone through the usual reporting channels, and was actioned without adherence to the usual deletion criteria.

When someone asks us to delete a thread, we usually do our best to persuade them otherwise, and offer all sorts of alternative options - we'll urge them to 'hide' the thread, offer to retrospectively change their username, etc. In most cases, believe it or not, this is what happens! We receive a huge number of thread deletion requests every day and those that actually get deleted are in the minority.

We completely take on board your feelings about the standard 'We don't normally delete whole threads but we will do so when it is to protect a poster's privacy' message, though and will be making it clear to all the team that the deletion of a thread for privacy reasons should only happen when someone's privacy is genuinely compromised.

Sorry that we got it wrong on this occasion. We may also have been slightly more lenient in general over the past couple of weeks, it being Christmas and all, but we'll be back on the case now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/01/2016 17:17

Thanks very much Dawn Smile

To be honest, I think in cases where the op has genuinely had a hissy-fit, and is getting really upset by the whole thing, most of us would be fine with it being deleted "at the op's request, because, let's face it, he/she made a bit of a tit of themselves and is very embarrassed"

I agree with this.
