Why is Mumsnet promoting private medical care?

Latest email has a major endorsement for a 24hr doctor service, that's not only subscription based but involves a £50 charge per consultation.

I can't help feeling this is inappropriate but I'm not sure why. Basically I think it's that I disagree with the private health care system in general as it disadvantages the poor by creating a two tier system.

I also note that some of the pages advertised in the same newsletter (regarding getting babies to sleep etc) do not yet exist.

So I am having a grump.

I mean would Justine put her name to a private school that wanted to advertise through MN?

Just because you disagree with it doesnt mean everyone else does. MNHQ has to cater to lots of different people. And lots of people use private health care.

But surely this plays into the hands of those who are trying to privatise the NHS by stealth?!

Given that most people can't get a GP appointment for love nor money, it's as well that those with money can get to see a doctor, thus clearing the way for those with none. It ain't right, but nor is it right that people die because there are no doctors' appointments available.

If people are dying because there is no doctors' appointment why is this not being raised as clearly then the NHS is not fit for purpose. Oh right, yeah another excuse to disband it.

It is being raised. Nothing is being done about it.

See the second point about working into the hands of those wishing to destroy.

If you provide an alternative system the well paid and those with most influence just opt out and they don't care what happens to the system as it is not their problem. And then it is allowed to deteriate further and ultimately it is the poor and the sick who suffer. Those with less influence and less ability to opt out.
