I know that I saw a link to a huge list of abbreviations used in the discussions but can't find it now.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

AMNFEASBB = Acronyms Make Newbies Feel Excluded And Should Be Banned?

SoupDragon · 14/05/2004 14:26

WOEAYLTA? What On Earth Are You Lot Talking About?

mambo · 14/05/2004 14:29

don't you think it is a bit clicky anyway??? speaking as a relative newcomer. Like all those mother and toddler groups and gossipy mums in playground.

Pes · 14/05/2004 14:29

ERAAGIC - elderberries rule and are great in crumbles

In my capacity as deputy tech I will suggest the addition of an Acronym Glossary I think

Janh · 14/05/2004 14:32

mambo, know what you mean, I felt the same when newbie, but not exactly clicky, just some people have been here longer and know each other more - you do catch up after a while, honest!

Really good entertainment for a Friday afternoon @ work

ROFL

Janh · 14/05/2004 14:33

SM, great idea. Esp of the MN specific ones (like BD and AF)!!!

Pes · 14/05/2004 14:34

Great idea to help newbies like me over the initial confusion

IKWYM ( ) too mambo, but most of these acronyms are in general use across the internet and are not exclusive to mumsnet. They do serve a purpose. I think a popup acronym list accessible from the Talk menu would help.

SoupDragon · 14/05/2004 14:37

BD and MN aren't MN specific though. They're in common usage on all parenting boards.

They're not really cliquey, it just saves typing the same long winded phrases again and again. You do soon get the hang of it although IYSWIM had me stumped for ages!

SoupDragon · 14/05/2004 14:37

"BD and AF"

MN clearly is MN specific. Bah!

mambo · 14/05/2004 14:44

I didn't mean the acronyms were clicky.Janh right about people knowing each other for longer. no offence intended ;0

MrsDoolittle · 14/05/2004 14:55

Love this, it really helps.
I am a relative newcommer too and all the abbreviations had me stumped for ages. It's quite fun though when you find out what they mean and you feel the light bulb pop in your head.
I don't think they are cliquey -just easier. Someone is usually willing to enlighten you when you can't work them out.
ROFL Spacemonkey - your father smells of an 'amster and your mother is an elderberry ?
Why do I find that so funny?

Pes · 14/05/2004 14:56

please please put the 'amster / elderberry one in
