I'm looking for somewhere to post about bicycles and can't find the appropriate topic.

There is a weights topic. An Unexplained topic. Hmm

Is there a bikes one? BikeSmile

Just keep spinning, just keep spinning, just keep spinning, spinning, spinning… Grin

Yes, it does cost, no doubt about it.
But I gather the obesity crisis is costing us dearly too.
And the benefits of having a less car-driven society would be far bigger than just having more cyclists. I can never remember stats but the deducting in child RTA deaths was staggering. AND hardly anybody wears a helmet Grin

CoolWheelsPan · 21/07/2015 20:56

yours truly in southern France last week, just spinning past the sunflower fields.

Less Mark Cavendish, more Alvira Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz Grin......basket and sun hat porte du jour....

Cycling topic anyone?

Envy V nice - love the basket too!

Our obsession with cars is so short sighted Hmm. Unfortunately, we've left it so long that the required change in operating also coincides with increased access to cars, a decline in public transport, increased perception of "individual" rights (ie to go where/when they want by car) and austerity economics which means that neither the government nor the public will accept the investment and change in habits required. Sad

To give Boris his due and I don't like his politics at least he is trying vis-à-vis cycling in London.

LammilyDoll · 21/07/2015 21:06

"Yes please" to a cycling topic!
I never know where to look/post about cycling stuff.

CoolWheelsPan · 21/07/2015 21:06

Quite PB. Humans, with the brains the size we have, are pretty useless at making strategic decisions for our own good.

SophiePendragon · 21/07/2015 21:26

Well MN has a MASSIVE entire section for cars so I think a little tiny topic is the least they can do about cycling Smile

I'm half Dutch, in the 1960's they could see where things were going, small country plus growing population. Also, there had been a lot cycling related deaths on the roads.

All my Dutch family cycle, even the arthritic aunts!

CoolWheelsPan · 21/07/2015 21:56

yes that's maybe where MN can be - a large Family-orientated site slightly ahead of the curve re riding a bike for the benefit of all.

Likeaninjanow · 21/07/2015 21:57

I agree! All the cycling forums are dominated my men stuff. I'd love a cycling/bike topic.

If you could start it before I buy a new bike this weekend that would be even better Grin

Currently being baffled by women's specific versus not, compact versus standard, etc, etc...

TiggyD · 21/07/2015 22:32

"All my Dutch family cycle, even the arthritic aunts!"

Good possible band name there!

lavendersun · 21/07/2015 23:12

Yes please, it literally took me years before I came across the cycling thread and I update my trials and tribulations regularly .... Hay on a bike anyone? Grin, as well as doing a little bit myself I am a cycling widow, that alone must qualify me to post.????????

SophiePendragon · 22/07/2015 07:48

Ohhhh Envy

I've been trying to work out which is better...friend has got a Yuba for sale...I'm very tempted. How do you find cornering? And has the Surly got 21 gears? (which I don't think I want!!!)

SophiePendragon · 22/07/2015 11:18

Wow thank you, that sounds great - it was a blog I read by someone who hadn't ridden a bike for 20 years then got this one so I guess that might have affected how they felt about it Grin

It's a toss up between the Yuba and the FR8 which I've seen for sale privately. Both the same sort of price, both beautiful - but I don't know whether you can put an 8yo on the front frame mounted seat on the FR8 and it'll be too scary for the 2yo for another year or two.

Bit of a quandary.

I just ordered a bike as I need it for work.

Sorry but it is a Victorian Pendleton Grin

Oh I always look at the Pendles in Halfords. They are very pretty! And you don't have to ride it wearing a see through sarong with a bunch of flowers in the basket Grin

Tea - yes the Mundo seems to have space for two on the back. It's very appealing.

I've got a Yepp mini in the shed and just tried ds3 in it - he still fits!!! But not for long...and I don't fancy him being on the handlebars for some reason, I'm worried it might unbalance me even with the centre stand etc. And he never sits still...

But it might work out.
Buying a Dutch bike from the Netherlands is going to be a good deal at the moment because of the Euro. Compared to a UK dealer anyway.
