Dear MNHQ - Can we have a Yoga topic, please?

CoteDAzur · 21/05/2015 15:07

There are quite a few of us practitioners of yoga & pilates on MN and we would love to have a topic where we can exchange tips, discuss our challenges, and help each other improve our practice.

About 20 of us have already expressed enthusiasm about a Yoga topic on this thread today.

So.... please? Smile

We are now 30 MNers who would really like to have a Yoga topic, with threads on all different kinds of yoga (hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, bikram etc) as well as pilates and tai chi.

Come on, MNHQ Smile

Yes please. When I began to be interested in yoga, MN was -naturally- a first port of call for info. It'd be great to have an easily identifiable place to go to.

Hi there MNHQ

Yes please to a Yoga (or at least Holistic exercise) topic
so that the runners and weight lifters do not have to put up with us lot talking about pranayama
and we do not have them suggesting protein shakes!

Personally I would widen it out from pure yoga (whatever that is nowadays) to include Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi
as they are all forms of exercise / lifestyle alterations that will stand MNers in good stead for many years

Yes, let's definitely make it a Yoga, Pilates & Tai Chi topic Smile

There are enough topics already and no bugger uses them, so everything ends up in AIBU.

If there are this many people who want to talk about Yoga then the Sports topic would be a perfectly good place to go, and it's not so busy that yoga-related threads would get lots.

Or indeed the Exercise topic, where the original request was posted, which currently has under 20 threads with posts today.

Thank you for your opinion Trills, but we still want our Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi topic Smile

We would like a place where we can pool our resources and experience, have multiple threads about different kids of yoga (hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, bikram, iyengar, kundalini, yin yoga, etc) as well as pilates and tai chi. Where we can talk about our physical challenges and ask for advice. Where we can post photos of our progression and encourage each other to do better.

A community, in other words.

trills
20 live threads in a day is MASSES
have a look at some of the Mumsnet Local sections!

And actually if those threads are communal threads there could be many posts on each rather than lots of new repetitive threads
eg my other home (5:2) has only one really live thread at a time - but it can have 150 posts a day on it.

If the Yoga board had a

  • mat pilates thread
  • reformer pilates thread
  • power yoga thread
  • bikram yoga thread
  • vini yoga thread
  • total beginner yoga thread
  • yoga retreats thread
  • becoming a teacher thread
  • tai chi thread
  • mixing and matching classes thread
  • exercise and or meditation thread

that would cover most of the bases without needing loads of duplicate threads like the ones on AIBU Smile

You could have all of those (with the word Yoga in the title) in Exercise or Sport.

There's nothing stopping you.

And I disagree with having a whole topic for 5:2 as well.

I also disagree with the fact that we've got a topic called "Baking" and one called "Cakes and Bakes"

There's also this topic], allegedly for plugging your book/business/whatever, which has ZERO POSTS EVER.

Oh I can think of more that will probably appear in the first days of the topic coming online:

  • yoga/pilates clothes & gear (mats, blocks, etc)
  • yoga music - your favourites?
  • my knee hurts when I do this - what to do?
  • look at my posture (insert picture) - how can I improve it?
  • progression: this [picture] is how I did this asana 3 months ago. Look how much better I am at it now [picture].

It will be great!

Trills - Why don't you start a thread on Site Stuff to tell MNHQ that the proliferation of topics on MN bothers you? Maybe they can cull some that are not used.

I invited you by PM to join us on this thread because you posted some years ago that you were doing yoga on your birthday. Fine if you are not interested anymore, but if it's all the same to you, please stop raining on our parade here. Thank you.

I'm all for this as I want to start yoga but confused about where to start. There's a lot of yoga talk here scattered among several topics so it makes sense to have one topic about it.

Aye. Is follow a yoga board. I'm an ex-ashtangi who now does some vinyasa flow but misses the ashtanga (unfeasible with a one year old).
