Isn't about time MNHQ started deleting posts that attack people's spelling and grammar?

(In advance I will say any of my posts are likely to have spelling and grammar mistakes)

It's such a shitty thing to do and often it is directed at poster who then feel they have to explain themselves and disclose they have dyslexia. I don't understand why MN tolerate people with potential disabilities being mocked in this way?

Why can it not be regarded as a personal attack and such comments deleted. Very often the arses that post comments about another posters spelling bring nothing else to the thread and usually it derails the thread and the OP's original issue gets lost in the ensuing bunfight.

confused, you misread me. I've already pointed out that that post applies to lots of us - you're pulling us up by citing her as an example.

dead - good on your DH, but isn't it depressing people still have to go through all of this?

oops posted too soon...I meant to add that he is more relaxed about his writing when it's just me but totally diligent with work and with friends.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 16:24

Yes, and that is where.

Literally. Not even figuratively.

TwartFaceBeetj · 29/05/2015 16:25

I think I'm with IknowIam. It gives me a heads up on that poster.

Although if I spell something and put a (sp?) after it, I wouldn't mind being given the correct spelling.

I think I said on the last big thread, about this. That I have my reasons for poor SPAG, but I certainly don't want to have to explain it every time I post. So I think the SPAG police really should think before they jump in to apparently help out.

Ok, but first could we first start a campaign for people whose first language is supposed to be English start writing "would have" instead of "would of".

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 16:28

Yes, and you're upset, I think, because I picked up on yours, when you feel you'd only talked about someone who likely isn't here reading this.

I get that.

I can see that it's not fun for someone to turn around and pick holes in your posts.

But what do you think it feels like to others? Yes, you're talking about your TA at a fee-paying school, but MN is a big place and I am fairly sure that comment will have struck home to other teachers than me.

I just don't see why it is necessary to validate the kinds of people who refuse to accept they might be upsetting others.

It is different from that, yes, but not so different in the context of this thread, I think.

CuntyCowFace

On the back of this thread, I reported a nasty post last night, I won't repeat the post here but it was basically along the lines of "the OP's spelling and grammar is shit". I told MNHQ I thought it was nasty and not helpful to the OP. MNHQ have deleted itGrin

So thanks for stating this thread, as I would never have thought to report before. I suggest others start reporting attacks on people's SPAG too!

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2015 16:45

Bakeoff that's why I was surprised at Rebecca's reply because HQ have told us to report in the past, when we see people being pulled up on spelling and grammar.

I do often report when I see it.

usualsuspect333 · 29/05/2015 17:06

I'm surprised by MNHQs response on this thread.

The last time I reported a thread full of hysterical 'It's HAVE HAVE HAVE' posters I got a very different reply which said ' it's not ok to correct posters spelling and grammar but they won't delete them as they are not a PA.

Mrsjayy · 29/05/2015 17:07

I think posters have it spot on mumsnet talk is just a chat forum thats all i dont agree with its fine to correct unless folk have indicated they want it corrected.

Bakeoffcake · 29/05/2015 17:07

They must have thought the one last night was a personal attack.
I will keep reporting.

Mrsjayy · 29/05/2015 17:08

Shouting HAVE its fucking HAVE is P A

cuntycowfacemonkey · 29/05/2015 17:15

Bakeoffcake I wonder if it was the post that prompted me to write this thread? Hope so it was just a nasty, uncalled for swipe at an OP who was looking for advice.

I think I am going to take the line of repeatedly reporting it, if for no other reason than to irritate the powers that be whose response is disappointing and inconsistent with what they have previously said.

OP posts:
usualsuspect333 · 29/05/2015 17:17

Can you imagine what would happen in RL if you shouted 'IT'S FUCKING HAVE' at someone.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 17:20
Grin

Without the 'fucking', usual, I have an excellent sense of what would happen, because my mother spent most of my childhood doing that. She also corrects people on 'who' and 'whom'.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 29/05/2015 17:21

I remember that thread. Poor op. Sad

Mrsjayy · 29/05/2015 17:21

You would get them carted off for being a demented loon thats what would happen or you would back away slowly Grin

WanderingAboutRandomly · 29/05/2015 17:32

BakeOffCake If you really want to piss the pedants off then using words like LOL, uni, and kids is quite effective. Wink.

crispandfruity · 29/05/2015 17:32

If any pedant po po's try and pull me up on my SPAG I will pop a cap in their ass. Big style. It's an internet forum not the entrance exam for a super selective.

howabout · 29/05/2015 17:33

Should SPAG not be SpaG? Just saying lol ;)
