I hope they're paying you really well, Mumsnet

Because isn't this diluting the brand, somewhat? It's prominent, at the top of the page on the desktop site and the storymakers part of the logo takes up more space than the mumsnet logo.

I appreciate that sponsors and advertisers keep the site going, but this makes me question the impartiality of Mumsnet. However good the storymakers site might be (I don't know, its irrelevant to my kids,so I haven't checked it) it belongs to a manufacturer of cheap chocolate, marketed towards children.

Is that really an association you want to make so prominently?

I hope they're paying you really well, Mumsnet

Whatever my thoughts on the Kinder sponsorship, I too was struck by the dilution of the MN brand there.

BadPoet · 09/03/2015 11:22

And I'm not sure that Kinder introducing the new pink & blue Kinder eggs to replace the nice gender neutral orange ones sits very well with the 'Let Toys be Toys' campaign either.

ElsbethTascioni · 09/03/2015 11:35

I don't like the new pink and blue kinder eggs. I think it is a Bad Idea.

ouryve · 09/03/2015 11:39

Quiet, BadPoet

It seems to go against so many things that Mumsnet supposedly stands for.

I refuse to buy the pink and blue Kinder Eggs.

I like having a stock for my DD so end up buying tons in the Boots and Coop near my work as they have neutral ones. need to stock up before going on maternity leave

GahBuggerit · 09/03/2015 12:29

I dont think it dilutes the brand at all, the Mumsnet logo is prominent and the positioning of the promotional flash off to the side with the Mumsnet appearing out of the story book makes it quite clear that its just a promotion on the MN site. Like many others. They have to make their money from somewhere to ensure the site stays free.

I don't really have an issue with the eggs either. You can still buy the neutral ones, but the introduction of the pink / blue means you have a good idea of what sort of toy you will get to stop disappointed little people. DS1 is gutted when he gets a 'girls' toy, and DS2 is miffed when he gets a 'boys' toy so the coloured eggs are great for me!

ouryve · 09/03/2015 12:56

Um, that's quite, not quiet Blush!

I agree that there's a serious conflict with LTBT and Kinder. Who approved this?!

MrsHathaway · 09/03/2015 13:02

You can still buy the neutral ones

Can you? Where? Not round here ::grumble grumble::

Waitingonasunnyday · 09/03/2015 13:03

My reaction was

Ooh that's colourful
Oh its for those bastard genderised eggs
I miss Creme Eggs too, bastards
At least its not Nestle I suppose, utter bastards
Fuck me there is not much chocolate left I can eat at this bastard rate
Hmm I thought Story Makers belongs to the BBC
Then the earworm began: Story Makers, Story Makers, working through the night till the work is done.

LineRunner · 09/03/2015 13:04

I too would please like to join the froth about pink and blue chocolate eggs for children. Thank you.

Waitingonasunnyday · 09/03/2015 13:05

I assume LTBT is Let Toys Be Toys? Or is it just me that read 'Leave The Bastard Toys'?

MrsHathaway · 09/03/2015 13:07

LOL Waiting yes I was just being lazy.

GahBuggerit · 09/03/2015 13:11

They do them in my local Morrisons. They have an outer with the blue and pink ones then about 4 outers of the neutral ones. Am sure Ive seen them in Tesco aswell.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2015 13:14

I didn't notice the extra bit on the logo.

Hm, being sponsored by sexist junk food aimed specifically at little kids (so it's a bit ageist too Grin) .... did you really think this one through?

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2015 13:21

The pink/blue eggs aren't new this year though-I am sure they were around last Easter.
What's Storymakers? it was a TV programme when my two were little.

ClassicTron · 09/03/2015 13:23

Will anyone stop using MN because of it?

How many people have now heard of something called Story Makers who hadn't before? I'm one.

PandasRock · 09/03/2015 13:33

Story makers appears to be a kinder app, SparklingBrook. I think there was a product test thread.

I may have heard of story makers (other than the cbeebies programme, which is what will always be the association for me too Grin) now, but I haven't looked up the app (and my dc all use apps, and 2 would be in the demographic for using it) and probably won't.

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2015 13:33

This is what I think of as StoryMakers, also had the bloke off Red Dwarf in.

I hope they're paying you really well, Mumsnet
songbird · 09/03/2015 13:36

Me too sparkling, I'm confused Confused

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2015 13:40

Kinder Eggs are horrible-like doggie chocolate drops probably taste, and it just falls to bits. Can never get the little plastic egg open either.

My children are teens and have no interest in rubbish chocolate. Grin

Glad that's not just me.

I miss blue Cow.
